Have stud fees been increasing lately? Idk if it's just me but I have been seeing some high dollar amounts for stud service. It makes me think that the saying, "...for the betterment of the breed..." is just more talk than it is a actual philosophy followed.
What do you feel is a fair price? What amount are you not willing to go over? How are stud fees in Europe compared to the fees here in the U.S.?

I am no expert....... When I was researching stud dogs in Texas (US), the general rule was the price was the same as the cost of a puppy. This was kind of the baseline and went up from there depending on what else was done (i.e. If the bitch was staying at the stud's home for the breeding and how long). As the price of the puppies would go up depending on the stud, so would the stud fees.
Not sure if this helps.

well i have notice that they have been going up, what was the normal for a SCh3 show line stud a few years back was like $800 ,is now like $1200. i think thats a bit much.
but i have also seen some way more than $1200 too, all the way up to $2500, are they kidding?
for me , i want a very good quallty stud, but i put the line at no more than $1000 and prefer to stay around $800 if possible.
i came across a IPO1 stud and they wanted $800 for him , oh boy thats a bit much , but if they are getting breeders use there dog, then i guess they think its a good price . well i would not pay that much unless it was the only good dog i can find.
i am in a search right now for a good stud and to tell you the truth there really is not much i would use. but you are right stud fee is going up.

as a breeder the stud fee is usualy the price of a puppy so I would say around the $ 1500 or more. This is based on a good stud dog with ZVV3 IPO 3 or SCHH3 of course.
In Europe they don't pay as much, it is more in the 400 to 600 Euro, anyway this is my experience!

I considered offering my dog for $500. I don't want to ask TOO low, you know, but I'm not a breeder myself and not trying to make money, just want to offer something that is not the same dogs over and over and a dog that is actively training and competing, not just obtaining a title to breed and that's it. After his breed survey in November maybe slightly higher price. Dog is show rated, UKC Champion (working on Grand), SchH titled, SDA titled, actually lots of additional titles (agility, flyball, dock diving, you name it), OFA hips and elbows, AD and all the breed survey requirements, also is sort of a mascot for a local elementary school (walks in their parades and does obedience demos for classes). I don't think I could ask the price of a puppy since most puppies from similar lines are $2500 up. A proven producer (not just a MASS producer but a dog that has produced healthy, titled, successful dogs) I can see asking on the higher end.

$750-$1500
depends on bloodlines and the stud dog must have at least IPO1.

I think they are increasing, too.

Well I agree with Ace $2500 is outrageous for a stud fee. I wouldnt pay it either. Then again I wouldnt pay that for a puppy.
Ive been looking for a dog and cant believe what people are charging. I think it's more of the mindset that because the person paid so much then trying to recoup on their investment. It's going to be that in time even with airfare, it will be cheaper to bring a dog in from outside the states. I certainly can now if pups keep selling for $2500.00. One breeder wanted $3500.00
. The dog better poop gold for that price

the cost of everything is up :
dog food
dog toys
transportation
veterinary services
submission to testing facilities (DM, AKC DNA, etc.)
training, seminars and helpers
show entry fees
club fees
why wouldn't the cost of stud fees be up also?
a stud owner that has a quality stud that is managed correctly (brucellosis and cultures, training, quality food, etc.) should adjust the stud fee according.
Its only fair!

i will also say , that i have a stud dog and would never ask an outragous price for stud fee, i do have a very good quallty boy and think he is a very good stud to improve on many things , same with selling pups, most breeders ask way too much , but i am sure you know why, its the money plain and simple.
