GSDtravels

I am not easily impressed with most people and their knowledge and/or understanding of pound rescues.  Sadly, the general public, though well meaning, are pretty much idiots when it comes to dogs.  It's never too bad when they stick to small breeds, but I've seen too many disasters in mis-matches of person/breed with larger or more powerful dogs.

Anyway, checking on a property at work, a couple of neighbors where out talking and there was a dog barking at me from a house across the street.  It sounded like a GSD, but I couldn't tell for sure because there was sun glare on the door.  When I came back down, I saw that it was a really pretty sable bitch.  One of the neighbors told her to be quiet and of course, I asked about her.  She was a stray rescued from the pound!  I asked if I could see her and she brought her out on lead   She came and sniffed me and sat.  Nice dog, wonderful owner.  She's a vet tech and actually knew about the breed and did this girl justice.  When she rescued her, she was obviously trained well and this woman had the knowledge and care to keep up with it.  She took her to a trainer to see if she understood any other languages...  no, strictly English commands and heeded without hesitation... ball crazy.  She was lean and looked to be about 7.  I was amazed to find out she was at least 10!  Nicely put together, lean, clean, happy and well behaved!

It was really nice to see a perfect match, a responsible, caring, involved owner and a dog who was happy, healthy and a pleasure to be around.  I'm more used to seeing fat, unhealthy dogs with bad teeth, at age 6.  Made me feel really good and improved the rest of my day.  Just thought I'd share.

Unfortunately, it is usually the problem children that capture our attention. I too, have met a few strangers with GSD's and it is always fun to discover that they too, love to talk about their dog, to guess the story and wonder about the lines, of their rescue dog.
