EuroShepherd... I haven't got the coydog, but when he was younger I got "is he a wolf hybrid". Your dog Bella looks nothing like a Chow lol, does she have the black spot on her tongue? If she does......then surely she's not a German Shepherd because they don't have that.  And I'm glad you mentioned how they say the name....I've heard that too and was like what?  I've also been asked if Auggie is a "Dutch Malinois" or a Belgian Shepherd.  I gave himan odd look....   I did have one guy ask if he was a Dutch Shepherd because apparently Auggie has brindle markings on his legs the guy said.  Auggie has the markings going down (doesn't show well in that little picture for some reason) his legs like Brandi's dog.

Jenni, I'm actually alright with them asking if he's a Mal. At least their question would have asked if it's a working breed lol.  Do you have a picture of Capri? I can't remember what she looks like, or don't know if I've seen a picture of her.

lol Hund, it's beyond me too.  The ladies that asked us if Klaire was a Mal said that they used to have a Mal that was a rescue.....  They still weren't convinced when we told them she was pure GSD of Czech/DDR workinglines.
GSDguy, the fellow who asked me if Bella was a chow mix had come over to my place to look at my puppies I had for sale (2 yrs ago) he asked me this AFTER I got done telling him about my dog's bloodlines, including Bella's.  Then he stated that he wanted to know if I would sell her (no), then he stated that he wanted a pup that looked just like her and to let him know when she had puppies.....I think he was completely clueless about GSDs.
In regards to black spot on tongue, no Bella doesn't have any, but it's actually quite common in German Shepherds, many purebreds have black spots on their tongues  (same goes for labradors and other breeds, with no chow influence)

lol, oh no Jenni, poor Capri! good thing she didn't understand those insulting remarks.   Many vets know nothing about breeds, when I was in HS I apprenticed at a vet's office...wonderful vet but not good with breeds at all, someone came in with a Bouvier once and she thought it was a Giant Schnauzer (me, the highschool kid, had to correct her, lol)

Re: the Black Spot.  I think GSDGuy was joking - one can never be too sure ! (LOL)
Don't Chows have more of an all-over blue tongue, rather than this splodge, anyway ?

Years ago I had collies and was so proud when we bought our first blue merle.  Then I ran into some know it all bozo who asked me what kind of dog she was.  When I told him she was a blue merle, rough collie he snorted and laughed in my face saying, "Boy, did you ever get screwed!!"  That "mutt" came from a reputable breeder & had champions all thru her pedigree.  She was simply gorgeous.  Ever since then I don't give a fig what someone thinks I have on the end of my leash.  I know and that's all that matters.

Funny story...a couple of neighbor kids came by on bikes when we were sitting out front enjoying the nice weather.  One of them told his young friend that the B/T was a GSD...the black one (Blanket B/T) was a Po-lice dog.  LMAO!  And when people would ask us about the small stature of our old girl (who was within standard, not small) my husband would look them in the eye and tell them she was a new breed...a miniature GSD.  And he let them believe it.  LOL

DebiSue - shame on your other half !  Of such wind-ups are urban legends made !  I've
had someone tell me with a straight face that two sizes of GSD exist, normal and 'miniature'.
Thinking
Why did the bozo think you'd been scammed, did he reckon rough collies don't come in the
merle variety, or did he know they did but were a mix/unshowable or something ?

I love hearing at the clinic.." I have a bad ass Rockwieller" !! I get so aggravated I finally say "a what" !! make them work for it. but I hate making them feel stupid (er) !! haha..
When sables are really young.. I had customers ask what the heck kind of dog is that.. and trying to explain that sables have the mark down their back that spreads and gets darker and the black and reds get a tad lighter as they all mature !!

Auggie is gorgeous no matter what !!

I would confiscate a dog on the spot whose owner called it a Rockweiller. Perhaps that's why I never sought a career in veterinary medicine.
