I put this on the GSD board because when someone asks "what is a good food for a German shepherd? These brands come up. Feel free to move if not appropriate.

This has made me sick. I use their foods. Maybe this is why some bags of Acana WP smell funny and sour or did when it was the old formula. Have not had enough of the new to see if it changes.

Read more of it than just the beginning to get to where the info is:

Hmmm...I don't see that they are saying there is s problem with the food being off. Just that the plant smells and they are working on that. I feed Orijen LB puppy and I don't find it smells bad.

They make pet food, the plant is not going to smell like roses. Ever been to a farmers market? That place stinks too! I used to deliver parts to a pork processing plant (human grade). Now that place stinks!

I think they are talking about an air quality problem for local residents, not that there's an issue with the food.

ETA: The problem in Australia sounds like it was something done in quarantine after it was imported, unless I'm misreading it?

Anyway, I take all pet food manufacturers with a grain of salt anyway. It's almost impossible to know what really goes into it. I can see why people feed raw, even though I don't.

I got that about any food plant smelling. The part about the meats coming from Tn and Ky etc and no regulations in Canada when I thought I was getting one of the best is what the concern is.

Yeah I agree, the Canadian regulations part is what bothers me most. (And I am Canadian)

I agree I can see why people feed raw. All of these companies have great marketing plans and I doubt the pet's interest is put before profit!
I have been happy with condition though. Use the WP, the Pacifica and the new Chicken & Burbank Potato.

Have to see what I can find about regulations in Canada. Do not know if that is true. That was what was posted on that thread. As you can see that was turning in to a food fight on that board.

Yeah, and a lot of it was just opinion and not fact.

Champion Pet foods won pet food maker of the year for several years running, and have an award winning plant. I hope that counts for something. :D

It's hard to get past the marketing. I wish pet food manufacturers would just do exactly what they advertise and not trick people. People are willing to pay for good food.

Still, I'm going to stick with Orijen for now. Maybe they are just another smoke and mirrors company, but I don't know any others who aren't the same or worse.
