The first thing I see here is REALLY BAD postioning. All I can think of is that does not look good. I will let the more experienced go into detail and explain.
sorry I can't be of more help.

have better xrays taken, the positioning of these are horrible.
the way they look in this position isn't good......maybe mild at best.

I agree, the positioning is REALLY bad. Definitely get these redone before you send to the SV or for OFA prelims. The left hip, on the right facing us, looks well seated but it's harder to tell on the other side. Better positioning will make a BIG difference! The OFA website, www.offa.org, has pictures of the proper positioning and what each rating lookks like.

Anther xray is not going to make any difference; this is not a close call. There is a fair amount of remodeling, the necks are thickened, the heads are flat, the sockets are shallow - at 2 years, my best guess is mild to moderate HD.

I'm with Blitzen - dysplastic. No way these will pass, repositioning or not. My guess is, straight positioning will make the hips look worse - or it will be clear that they are dysplastic for sure. remodeling, thickened necks, edges - moderate at best.

Crap positioning. Mild to moderate either way.

Dont blame the vet entirely for the positioning. When xraying a dog with remodeling changes like these, it may not be possible to get a much better positioned xray without having her knocked out cold and even then, pulling and twisting her legs could cause her some serious problems. The tech may have felt that these were not going to be passable hips, so just snapped a quick look. Sometimes you can just feel the grinding of bone on bone (crepitus) and take a more conservative approach initially.

someone wanna tell me why the positioning is so terrible?

by EuroShepherd on 25 August 2012 - 23:08
zdog, the legs are spread out. Good positioning, the legs should be perfectly straight or even rolled in slightly with the knees closer.
