This makes me so sad to read this...it appears the Kirschental name, and the tending activities of the dogs that carried that kennel name, don't have anyone to carry the tradition forward.

How I wish I was in a position to bring all of the dogs here...

Hexe that is bad news.  What a shame they have nobody taking over and seeing this great kennel into the future.  Will be missed.

. . . and there's a time for everything, including time for great beginings and time for great beginings to end. . . 70 or 80 years for humans with special consideration. . . we're all actors in this world's stage. . . just as there wasn't the GSD, i doubt if there'll be GSD,s in the coming Kingdom of Christ and our God(if natural ethics is to reign: the gsd is man-made). . . Only God and His heavenly Hosts'll remain forever.

OK.....enough, I get it :-)

If think there might be some attending the Sieger that may be interested in these dogs. Let's spread the word.

Ditto, guddu.

NigerDeltaMan, I don't know where you think you'll be going when your time in this dimension ends, but I'm damn sure that there WILL be GSDs waiting for me when my time here is over--and among them will be MY dogs, welcoming me home at last.

by Blitzen on 23 August 2012 - 19:08

Kudos to you, Hexe, for even understanding what he's talking about.

by beetree on 24 August 2012 - 23:08

Wow! I might think to help you hexe, or even Shelley or Blitzen, if you have access and the rest to get it done. What would it take I wonder?

by hexe on 25 August 2012 - 05:08

beetree, it would take a princely (princessly?) sum of Euros...much more than I can possibly justify spending in such an endeavor, that's for sure--I doubt those to whom I remit my various monthly expenditures would agree that the money is better spent in that effort than in paying them for their services and such.  I've little doubt that most of the dogs will go to other breeders, and that the Füllers will be extremely cautious as to where they're placed.

I've always admired their breeding program because it is based on the females in the bloodlines, and that focus on the motherline is why the Kirschental dogs have had such uniformity over all these years, whether sired by showline males or working line males...there is most definitely a Kirschental 'type', a phenotype that's recognizable, along with consistancy in temperament, working abililty and ethic, and general character.

We have two males out of Kirschental mothers. One is x Morbeck, the other is x Kirschental. One has a terrific temperament, great structure, good work ethic but has been terribly allergic all his life. The other ( Kirschental on both sides) has a problematic temperament, need hip surgery, has an incorrect coat and a curly tail and is too tall. Both are companion dogs and are good dogs.

We chose dogs from the Kirschental lines precisely because of Hexe's description above but would not do so again. The one's dam is a ditzy, unfriendly bitch who probably imprinted her temperament on her puppies. We know a sister to our one male -- she's skittish and does not have the calm, reserved demeanour one expects from a well bred GSD.

We have always held the Kirschental name in high regard and still do so for the German kennel. We're just no longer convinced that the Kirschental females being bred in the U.S. are producing the desired Kirschental traits.
