My female had a natural breeding 32/34 days ago.  Which would put her at about 1/2 way through her pregnancy (IF she is pregnant).  She has had a great loss of appetite, pretty much stopped eating one of her meals per day altogether.  Her nipples look larger, but she isnt showing.  She is a very trim/athletic dog, and this is her first breeding.   The male had his sperm checked and he is fine.  She's been clingy and even jumped on the couch with me the other night (which she is not allowed to do).  So she is definately showing a behavior change.

Shouldn't I be seeing her get larger by this point? Being that for at least the last week/two she has been skipping meals, I'm not sure if she has been gaining/losing any weight (and maybe is just hiding it well?)

I did go out and buy some yogurt and cottage cheese this morning so I could get her to start eating both meals again.  She gobbled up her breakfast just with a tablespoon of yogurt added in, so at least now I know I can get her to eat now.

What is your experience with super athletic trim dogs and showing?

I did not have her palpated for pregnancy last week, because I was sure by looking at her I would just be wasting my money.... but now I'm not so sure.  I do know her expected due date and will have her ultrasounded or radiographed at around day 54.

Hard to say. It depends on how many, where they are, how wide she is, how well-sprung her ribcage is, etc. I sometimes can't tell until the last 2 weeks w/mine. It's a little frustrating because buyers are waiting to find out and they must think I'm a real moron that I don't know until that late, but my bitch is very wide across the back, and regardless of how lean she is, they just don't make much of an impact (unless it's a HUGE litter) until about the last 2 weeks ime. I guess she could be having a false pregnancy, as well, which would explain the behavior changes.

Your description fits in with my bitch on her first breeding. I believe, your bitch's pregnant. In my own case, i didn't see any swellen belly until, exactly on the 45th day, that i saw a slight swell of her sides. This because i was so curious and became almost a skanning device. On the 45th or 46th day you'll notice that slight-swells on her sides. Not eating normal? No problems, it's natural. Just wait to count your puppies. Goodluck.

Thank you both.. its been several years since I bred, so its hard for me to remember exactly what came when.  I do seem to remember the last two weeks being when the dog started showing the most... but seems this female hasnt changed at all (in size... behavior wise she has).  I will keep my fingers crossed.

you can ultra sound her at 30 days to know for sure, i had a female do this and she never had pups, so i would go do the ultra sound, for me it was worth it to know. i will also say some females never show at all, some hide puppies very well. each female is very different , but some will start to show from 6 weeks .

Or you can just wait another two weeks and save money for ultrasound. By 5 weeks you will be bale to see...

I do x-rays for a count but that is much further away!
