I lost Eli my  beloved GSD in May  and went back to the breeder (Hinterland in CA)  to see his mother who at age 15 is still alive and one of his sisters who is Schutzund 1. I  ended up with a new pup whose great grandmother was my former boys grandmother. Benedict is 11 weeks now and  is  learning very fast, a great temperament.  I have been able to take him to work every day and he is becoming well socilazed. I work for the Catholic Church with children and teens and named my German Shepherd after the Churchs German shepherd Benedict XVl!  I also take him to the Assisted Living to visit my mom and he has no problem with elderly people petting him with canes, He did try to fetch some of those tennis ballspeople had on the bottom of their walkers because this is his favorite toy at home I am hopinh to train him to be a therapy dog.

Benedict;s  father Jasso Vom Priestracker  is from German Lines and his mom Penni von Hinterland is American.  Many of Hinterlands dogs are crossed between American and German . These dogs have won many titles, are healthy and beuatiful.

I notice that some people here think crossing them produces  inferior dog  and wonder why? As someone who is on my second one and have seen the dogs at Hinterand I disagree.  I am no expert on these things, just a GSD lover who have had them since childhood.  I love the info on this site!

Cute pup.
I do not care what type of dog YOU like. I like to know the parents are sound, healthy, working performing to their potential. I like to know most of the  dogs in pedigree ( at least 3-5 Generations). I like to contact my friends who knew the older dogs personaly to let me know what I am getting in to. I like to know WHY they put two dogs together. I like to know how they made their decision about breeding. I like to know Why they purchased this peticular dog for breeding. I like to see the parents work. I like hands on.
After that I hope that the male will produce good dog and that the mother will bring something special to the table. If this dog is what you like..than you got it. I would not have  use for it since I like civil tough and very drivey dogs with the umpf and solid working ability. I like to chalenge my dogs and push them. I love it. I put titles to follow the rules. But building searches, water bites, 3-4 helpers on the field, muzzle work..that is my passion!! Not every dog will do this, that is  why I wouldn't take chance with your lines.
Not saying your dog can not do it, just saying the linage i  look for  showed me the results.
Good luck with your pup, he trully is a looker.

Benny is a real looker and sounds as though his temperament is ideal for a therapy dog.

Good Luck with him.

What a happy looking little fellow...and my, what big feet he has.  Looks like a real sweetie which is just what you need for a therapy dog.  Sounds like you have a winner with Benny.  Enjoy him!
