I would not be surprised if people would go mad if they seen the protection phase....not PC enough! The animal rights would have a field day if the helper got it wrong and injured a dog ! ...

Schutzhund, French Ring and Beligian Ring are all doomed when it comes to acceptance by the public, due to bite work.  However there is still Herding and Rettungshunde which both have breed survey level titles.  I really think these two have a lot of potential for wide acceptence by the general public.  Schutzhund clubs should all be gearing more towards these two rather than bitework based titles, simply for the sake of survival.  As Kalibeck  said there would need to be one governing body that supercedes all the ones that are currently arguing with one another.  I really think the AKC, the SV and all the others could find a way to unverisally accept Herding and Rettungshunde titles from one another and that could pave the way for the framework needed to take the steps toward acceptance into the olympics (nosework and tracking fit into this idea also, but are not breed survey level titles).

Conspicous,  I wasn't running down your sport. I only said it doesn't look like an Olympic sport to me  Sorry, it just doesn't.

I'd be surprised if any event involving dogs "attacking" humans will ever qualify as an Olympic sport, but you never know. My favorites are track and field events while others don't like them at all. Usai Bolt! WOW!!

Momosgarage, spot on! When training has to be kept from the general public, I doubt there would be acceptance at a venue such as olympics. Yes, there are lots of other things to prove a breed's worth other than bite work...but that is still my favorite! Conspicuous, you are 100 pc right about dressage...teaching a horse the canter pirouette is one I found to be physically taxing for me in addition to half pass. But, as you said, unless a person has actually done dressage, they don't know. I would get comments that it looks like the horse is doing all the movements on their own!
