Breeder agrees to surrender dogs to Stratford
BRIDGEPORT -- A Stratford dog breeder, charged with abusing 13 of her dogs, agreed Tuesday to turn over eight of them to the town of Stratford.
The settlement, reached before Superior Court Judge Sybil Richards, ends months of contentious court battles that attracted the attention of dog lovers from around the country.
Under the settlement, the breeder, Dawn Marie Pieger, agreed to relinquish ownership of most of her dogs and agreed to pay $20,000 to the town.
Pieger does get to keep five dogs, but under strict conditions including regular veterinary visits and unannounced visits from animal control officers. And she must remain under psychiatric care.

As a result of this long-standing melodrama, I am hoping that the GSD world has learned a lesson. Rather than defend and continue to allow stud services and sell puppies and dogs to those with longstanding bad reputations, it might be a better idea to see for yourself what's going on and act accordingly? It's hard to tell which of those 13 dogs were bred by whom. I'm guessing not all were bred by Dawn Marie or out of her own stud dogs.

The article indicates dogs had open sores, skin issues,
emaciated dogs and one had bitten it's own tail tip off?
And people defended her--amazing.
Too bad she got to keep 5. I would imagine she'll be
breeding the legs off them to pay that $20,000.00

I agree with workingdogz. She is going to be breeding them like crazy. I can't believe they allowed her to keep any! I'm glad they took the ones they did, but why did they see fit to allow her to ever, EVER have dogs again? It's beyond me and pisses me off.
