Yes, it is winter here, we have had constant frost most mornings for the past 2 or 3 weeks, am temp of - 4 or 6C and only warming up to 9 - 13C during the day.
I have an 18 week old puppy and she has very good pigment but during the last 7 - 10 days part of her nose has gone a mottled pink, no roughness, not sore looking, not itchy?

Will try for a photo later but any information would be appriciated.

One of my dog also lost the pigment on her nose.  More concerning was the development of de-pigmented spots in the corners of her mouth that actually became open and a bit sore.. like small blisters or cold sores.  My vet and I both thought it was a form of discoid as the lip blsters in the corner of the mouth are a marker for that and where it typically starts.

I planned to spay the dog at some point in the future and figured we would do a biopsy when she was out for the spay (no need to knock her out any more than necesssary).

In the mean time, I added some cod liver oil pills (2 pills 1X a day) to her food as I read that might help (and it wasn't going to hurt).  By the time of spay which was around the time of the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphers, the blisters had healed and there was nothing to biopsy (yay!!) and so we figured it was winter nose.

In the interest of this dog not developing this in the future the current plan is to start cod liver oil pills at the time of the fall equinox and see if it prevents winter nose.  If the dog develops winter nose anyway then not a lot of money was spent.  If the dog does not develop winter nose it won't really prove anything on the grand scale as the dog might not have developed it w/o the cod liver oil anyway.. but I won't know for sure.. and will continue to use the cod liver oil for about 6 low sun light months of the year.

Either way, the supplement won't hurt the dog and may help the skin and the coat anyway and if it helps the winter nose thing, then that is good.

We have also had two females lose pigment from their nose during the winter...they were mother and daughter and both were very well pigmented girls. We didn't do anything about it and the pigment returned to both girls noses with time.
