Our seven month old gsd has been acting a little more on edge as of late; patrolling the yard, barking at wife as she entered the back yard, running up on us as if she doesn't know us. My son noticed her nipples were really swollen and she seems to be covering her private with her tail when we try and inspect. We haven't seen or found any red blood although fur was brownish in that area, maybe it was dried blood but we thought otherwise at the time. But now who knows. Could these be signs she is or about to be in season (heat)??
Also our little 3 month old was just sitting staring at the neighbors fence for about ten minutes, where a male pit bull lives. It was as if he was on guard duty. He never sits that long, only sleeps...lol.

You will probably get a few different opinions on this but to my experience that is just a sign that she is growing up to be a teenager. Of course her body parts change and she is interested in the change and the brown colour on the coat is normal, they all get it.
The guarding is part of growing up too.
Give her some time...GSD females usually go into their first heat between 8-10 months. Yes, and it starts with tiny blood spots...
