Just wondering everyones views of importance of animals further back in the pedigree when choosing a stud dog, would you be worried about a dog that was 6-7 generations back if he was a dog known to produce hip/elbow dysplasia?? Especially if the dog was linebred on a particular dog but still a long way back, do you think it will have an effect on pups??

Stick to all the animals in the first 3 generations.3 gererations of good hips (assuming those are genuine results) and Esko Danischen Hof in there should be safe.If the stud dog has littermates with good hips it would help.

A single dog that appears one time in the 6th generation contributes very little to the current gene pool, around 1%.

Do you mean "inbreeding" ? Or in breeding?

thanks all as i thought , gsdguy i meant inbreeding, on one dog, ie for interests sake (this is not the dog i am thinking about but is widely known about the elbows,) if nero von nobachtal was in the pedigree but say 6-6,7 on the pups pedigree would this worry anyone or would anyone think this would have an influence?????????????
