What flaws are evident at 2 months? What do you look for that would make you skip a pup that is otherwise good?

How is the puppy eating? Does it regurgate it's food? This is a possible sign of MegaE, which starts showing up when the pup starts eating solid foods.

can you check teeth issues, 1/2 testicles for example?

I don't think you can reliable check for two fully desended testis at 2 months old. I've seen shepherds that left with both clearly showing at 2 months come back at 1 year with one retained. He was neutered as a monocryptorchid. Teeth are still a little iffy at that age. But i would check for a fully formed and closed upper pallet. Inspect the feet. Eyes, ears, the movement. Puppies should walk fairly normal if not a little goofey. But they should not be weak or loosely jointed looking.
Course every puppy is a gamble. You hope for the best and wait to see what happens.

I've never had or known of a male that had both testicles at 8 weeks that did not have them both later, but I suppose it could happen.

You can look for overbite/underbite at 8 weeks, but if it is slight, it may resolve itself.

You can tell long coats at 8 weeks, almost always. Color faults--such as eyes not the same color. Heart murmurs can be detected by a vet. Umbilical hernias; cleft palates, sometimes mega-esophagus. Cow hocks often can be apparent at this age, but if the pup is not in good condition (too fat, not enough exercise), they may self-correct. Flat/long feet.

Any white on the chest, neck, chin, muzzle at 8 weeks will probably stay there. White on toes will diminish, but if it extends up onto the paws, it will always be present.

Basic temperament and drive can usually be observed. The prey drive in male puppies will usually get stronger, in females, I want to see the drive there at 8 weeks (even if only in short flashes).

 Hi,

Assuming the parents are of sound mind and body.

I would not touch a pup that shows sign of :-

a) Unsound Temperamant
 b) Unsound movement when walk or trotting.
 c) If  Testicles are not down.
 d)If bite is not correct.
e)If to long in proportions, showing a weak backline.
