Hello,

First I'd like to say this is my first time posting, and I'd appreciate any helpful insight into finding the right breeder. I am searching for a reputable breeder in/near maryland. I am primarily interested in a working line male. I do not intend to purchase a puppy until next summer earliest, but would like to narrow down my search. This will be a companion dog. Although I may seek out clubs/schutzhund to see if this is something that interests me, I would prefer a dog with medium drive. However, I consider myself active and able to combat the energy a working gsd may have. I would like to spend around $1200 for a puppy and would be willing to drive up to 8 hours. I am mainly interested in puppies from titled litters. I do not plan on breeding, this is mainly a concern in regards to temperament/drive/health. Although I know that choosing by color is frowned upon, I would especially be interested in black sables. However, this is not a must. If anyone can advise me of any breeders I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks very much!

Take a look at www.mistyridge.com Joyce has a lot of experience with GSDs and while most of her dogs are showlines I believe, I think she also is involved in working lines. She has a SCH club as well. The dogs from her kennel have been nice, that I have seen. Also look at www.diamondshepherdkennels.com. My dogs have boarded there and they appear to have nice dogs tho I don't have first hand experience. You may want to google vom haterproof german shepherds a well. I don't know this guy or his dogs, but I believe he has been pretty successful in SCH competitions over the past couple of yrs. Do your research and go visit the kennels. Meet the breeders, see the dogs. Good luck! Theresa

Thanks very much Theresa! I really appreciate any input. For me this is a huge endeavor that I have waited years for! I have taken a look at misty ridge and from what I had seen it looked like they had mostly showline. I contacted them through email a while back and their dogs were priced a little higher than I  intend to spend. I'd really like to keep the price range between 1200-1500, although if this is not possible inevitably I'll be willing to spend more. Thank you for the other suggestions. I took a look at diamond kennels and emailed the breeder asking for some initial informaton. As for vom haterproof, the closest I could find was von stan but I will take a look into this as well. Much appreciated! And if anyone else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
