Is it normal for my almost 5 month old female puppy to already be 50 LBS? The breeder expected her to get up to 65 - 75 LBS at most. Well, she has been putting on 10+ LBS every month, so it won't be long until she reaches and surpasses that weight. Is this normal?

BTW, she eats "Pinnacle" dog food.

Sam: At this rate she is definitely going to surpass her mother, who I believe only weighed about 65 LBS. Her father on the other hand was I believe 85 LBS. So she is apparently taking after him.

Princess: Oh I know she's going to get bigger. That's what my question was about actually... I am just wanting to find out if it's normal for a female GSD to be so big at this age, and to be putting on weight/growing at this rate.

This is my first GSD. 10+ LBS every single month just seems like so much! How much longer do you guys think she will keep up this growth rate?

She does not look fat, if you think about it, she is only putting on maybe 1-2 lbs per week, this is a good slow growth. She is getting exercise, no pain in the joints, I would not worry.
Always,

she looks good.
most puppies do there fast growing  till 6-7 months , then they slow down.
so she will not be putting on her weight as fast, the closer she gets to a year.
you will notice  not as much growing.
hope this helps.

You might want to feed her less protein.  Puppy mixes often contain high growth protein.  I had the same issue with my 18 month old dog and went to a mixture of puppy/adult food.  You can also go to an adult/BARF diet to slow down the protein surge.  Short terms issues that can emerge include Pano, sore paws, and irritation.

She is a beautiful dog.  Where did you get her?

GSD Justice: That's very good to know, thank you (:

And I got her in Idaho out of a litter bred by a dog trainer/breeder I knew there.

You can see her pedigree here: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/602282.html

Thanks for the compliment on her (: I love hearing that from people... And I seem to a lot! She definitely is a looker ^^
