Another fear stage? - Page 1

So a little while back, Auggie went through this stage where the most random things were evil. I can't remember what all it was now, but it was certain objects.   Well.....last night and today were....interesting.  Last night he saw the oh so evil shovel standing straight up (earlier in the day I jabbed it into the ground to keep it standing) and ooooh......he let out this fearce growl at it (sarcasm, but he did growl at it). I let him figure that out on his own.  Well this morning there was a very small tree limb with leaves on it, laying on the ground.  He saw it, hair spiked, kind of hesitant at first to go to it....then he did.....sniffed it, he carried it off and was fine.   He even acted nervous about someone that he sees every day too.  Would this be another fear stage? Or what? I mean I know shovels can poop carrots out of their noses, and tree limbs can throw tanks at monkies, but sometimes I have to look at a window and make sure the sky opened up just right on a Monday, so I'll know everything is okay. But really though, any ideas? He "did" bounce back when my niece went and got a rope toy (she wasn't the one he was nervous of), and then his prey drive just kicked in and nothing mattered.

I don't know the age of the dog, sorry I don't keep up, but I would do more socializing in strange environments and even plan objects if need be.
Your right, give him time and room to figure them out on his own and ignore the objects yourself showing no concern or emotions towards them.
Without seeing the dog I cannot tell you if this is fear or just a healthy caution.
If he gets over these first encounters after investigation I would not consider it fear.

I think the recovery is very important. Seems he is recovering ok and facing his cautiousness with confidence.  Puppies are just like children.  Unsureness is ok, its the way they react it to that is important.  If your pup would run away from it, and not try to  investigate it, than I would say you have a real problem.  But like Moons said, social and get that puppy out around objects he is not familiar with so he can see that can build up confidence around things he is not sure of.  

By the way, how old is this puppy? And I do assume it is one of your Husky pups right?

The pup was born January 2nd........I forgot how many weeks that would be.  I'll start taking him to more places.  I mean these were things just a couple of days ago he didn't care about at all.  It was just kind of random.  We'll be doing more environmental stuff soon then as you guys suggested. 

I think as long as he recovers and then checks it out then all is OK.

Around 4 months they do go through a fear stage sometimes and things they have seen a million times before can freak them out but if they recover fast that is a good indicator they have sound temperament. Everything I've read is let the pup work it out on his own and don't push and just ignore the scary shovel monsters and he'll get a clue. I've had pups who never went through this and pups who have, my dobes arch nemesis when he was 4 months old was a safety cone that it took him a week to get next to lol. All grew up normal and confident (with no safety cone issues).
