Sorry as I can't find the other thread I posted about this on. Had Pan out in his vest for the first time today. My husband and I volunteer at a cat rescue so had gone to help set up and get the cats sorted then back home for pup walks and to bring Pan out to the Inn/restaurant the rescue was rehoming at to have lunch. Most people were super nice and could READ the patches. One woman and her family tried to swwop in and I politely asked her not to pet Pan. After that she walked by 4 or 5 times spitting and snarling and saying DON'T TOUCH THAT PUPPY in a chavtastic UK only way.
Finally my husband got fed up and went up to them (after I yelled at him not to hit anyone lol) and asked if they had a problem as the puppy was in training and also they were adopting a cat from our rescue and her husband (short fat and balding 50+ year old) got in his face and pushed him and started calling him out with (I kid you not) yo Blood Ima stab you! So thanks Pan, almost got us killed today lol. Not really worried as I don't think the old guy had a shiv on him but really? In front of his kids even? I am only sad that those people got to adopt a cat and what they will be doing with it.
All in all, US vs UK rude people-UK 1 US 0.

That story deserves a great big WTF. LOL. I'm sure it wasn't funny but the way you tell the story kind of made me laugh.

People do get quite funny when told to keep away from my dogs. I'm forever getting a scornful look when I refuse to allow people to pet them.
Now I have an easy solution, I just tell Major to "speak" and his deep bark puts people off pretty quickly.
I doubt it's any better anywhere else in the world, assholes are not confined to the UK.

Magdalensins, coincidentally there's a page in the current Dogs Today mag that has websites/contacts for "Please ignore me"/Dont Touch vests and personalised leads and such; and peoples' comments on this whole area of dogs in training being let alone by other people, and their loose dogs, you might find interesting.

No it's definitely not reserved for the UK (and the other thread had some hilarious stories) but at least in all of my US experiences people would either lecture me about proper socialization or try to sneak in a head rub like I wasn't looking lol. Here when people get mad it is like Jerry Springer. And watching a paunchy old short bald man calling my husband Blood yo (He was for the record wearing blue so technically he should have called him Crip I think? ;P) was astounding. Especially since my husband is 6'3" and covered in tattoos and just stood there laughing. Thankfully I did not marry an idiot (although some of his tattoos are pretty silly).
Not all of my experiences yesterday with people were bad though (and Pan did get some rubs from friends of mine who I know) and I answered a lot of questions about dogs and service dogs and working dogs to those who cared enough to ask. And more importantly Pan saw lots of interesting people and children and cats and bikes and strollers etc. I only use the vests because I like to control what experiences my puppies have and protect them from the swoopers, people who will practically facedive onto puppies. :D
The reason those people got a cat was because this happened after they had left the actual rehoming area with cat in a carrier, I did not realize they were there to adopt, lots of people going in and out and public courtyard for food and drinks. I did mention the incident to the people who actually run the rescue but obviously they aren't going to go repossess a cat just because owners are jerks, they can still love animals and did have to pass a home check.

I never permit petting/stroking of my dogs, only on rare occasions (and I would certainly expect someone to ask anyway).
However, I have never found that rudeness is ever linked, associated or dependable on a person's size, shape, hair-style, nationality, age, or rich or poor!

do people try to pet your adult dogs? where does it usually happen? I just get the odd smile lol but yeah people will crowd around a puppy whereever you are. The vest would make one look more appealing to people also.
I usually never pet anyone elses dog unless they insist and might take offense if i didn't lol

Not many adults ask if they can pat Evo, most cross the road to avoid him, I've no idea why
