I HAVE A GERMAN SHEPHERD FEMALE WHO IS 11 MONTHS OLD.  HOW DO I GET HER OFA?  HOW DO I LOCATE A VET WHO DOES THE X-RAYS AND DO I SEND THEM OFF OR DOES THE VET?  ANYTHING YOU COULD TELL ME WOULD BE GREAT....I HAVE NO IDEA HOW OR WHERE TO START.  THANKS A BUNCH~

The biggest thing you need to do, is find a vet that is experienced with OFA Xrays.  A lot of vets just don't know how to get the positioning correct, which can affect your grading with the OFA.  Once the radiographs are taken, your vet sends them in.  You just wait for a few weeks, and you will receive the grading in the mail.

As long as you have a good vet, it is a fairly easy process.

I am pretty sure the dog must be 2 to get an OFA rating. Anything before that is considered a prelim and not official for breeding.  bondo's mom - can you take off the caps?

look up the OFA website, go to  OFFA.ORG  it will have the how's.  Find a vet that does OFA x-rays, ask around your local area.

Why the rush unless you're looking for prelims?

I don't chime in too often, I don't like some of the flaming on these lists... but if I am not mistaken you can go to Working Dogs of America website and if you are a member you can send them into Germany for an A stamp or whatever rating you can get.  The dog must be at least 12 months old.  I know people who are interested in the sport or who have breeding programs like to get them done early before they put all the time and energy into a dog that may come up dysplastic.  Joining WDA, I believe, is $50 a year.  The fee to send them in is maybe around $75 or so.  Hips and elbows are $130ish (I THINK) cannot be certain.

Go to their website and all the requirements are listed.
