Will an untrained dog protect it's owner?

I know it is an advertising, but i wonder if this is true in real life.

I wonder what the real-life senario would be without attacker putting on  a sleeve and carrying a stick and approaches the victim in a more normal behavior and then attacks without a prior warning !!!

I agree with Ibrahim, it's impossible to say, being as that the situation to which the dog was presented is not considered a "real life situation". 

Untrained dog will not protect....I have seen it many times and picked up the pieces many more of those who did not listen and were unlucky enough to find out. Unless that dog happens to be a Fila, I would not bet my life on any dog that is untrained to protect me or a loved one.
Having said that, let me insert here that the few dogs, Malinois, shepherds, etc, that may do it without any training, based strictly on genetics, the general public could not live with or handle. 

Hired Dog, you can't say untrained dogs will not protect. I have seen a few cases just in the past year, just here in Tennessee on the news.......where regular house pets went after the person who broke into their house.  These were not breeds "known" for being great protectors by any means, but they did when the real situation came up.  The dogs in the video posted though.......I call it malarky, and sorry, but weren't most of them showlines? (Not trying to start a debate) I just clicked the video to see if it was the one I had watched in the past.  I've seen some videos of green dogs, no agitation or training done before, light up like crazy when threatened.  Would they attack if their owner or handler was being attacked, in a real situation, who knows.....  This video would give more credibility if they got rid of the sleeve, and used different lines, different breeds, many different dogs, etc etc.  

What idiot is going to approach a big German Shepherd like that in the hopes that it is not trained?

First off if you have not been in that situation how can you comment about what a trained or untrained
shepherd or mal would or wouldn't do. Here's the story .. a well known lets call him a unpredictable sort of man lived  in our small country town one day my brother and I went to our small town store parked in the most far away spot. I had my shepherd (showline )with us as we were leaving this man( lets call him pegleg because he did have one , no insults intended)approached us yelling and carrying on about how young punks don't respect and park in the handicap space which we were no way even near them. Well as he came closer my Falko (shepherd ) not trained to protect, jumped out of the car stood between me and Pegleg as he was coming swinging his cane my dog at that point did not hesitate to help himself to a little bit of flesh no puncture wounds but one extra large black and blue spot. As the store owner who, also had dealing with this man already called police and he did get ever minute of it on camera and there were other eye witnesses . My dog did not get into trouble because of his actions .Pegleg moved not long after that . So until you have been there maybe you shouldn't comment , I trust every one of my dogs to protect me .( This man shot a neighbors dog hung it in there tree painted red)

Well, ladies and gentlemen, yes, I can say it, with authority. A dog that is pylo erecting and screaming/barking, whatever, is NOT protection..
A dog that engages an assailant who is not running away or backing off and stands up to the pain that comes from being kicked, punched, etc, is protecting.
Would anyone in here want to bet their life, their loved ones lives on a house pet, on a dog that has not been bred, selected, raised and trained to protect? 
Yes, I read these stories on the news too, and I laugh...I also get sad when a good friend of mine purchased a male Doberman several years a go and while out walking it, she was assaulted and raped, while the dog watched and did nothing.
There is a huge difference between KNOWING the dog will do the job and hoping it will and for my money, I will bet on the dog that has been trained, the exception being those rare dogs that will take on a human out of civil aggression, but, again, the average person could not deal with one.
I agree the video is a joke and I knew Bob 25 years a go...not a pretty picture or story so I will leave it here.

I was very impressed with the second video. Bob trained that dog in one day, or she only wears the purple skirt to Airport Park...loved the music too. It reminded me of soft porn. I had the feeling she would meet up with a sweaty plumber. But in all seriousness, that lady is a moron. Why would risk going to the same park with your baby where thugs hang out, and you've already been mugged. That's just asking for it!
