Some bitches just don't want to be momma's, not all dogs make good brood bitches. Maybe she's just one of them!  they're awful young for her to not be showing interest still.

Also too much calcium can form  Stones in kidney or in the gall bladder called calcified stones.  Check how much calcium is in the 2 vitamins alone...adding a tab of calcium is not needed.  I have given one vit tab and one is all she probably needs.. What amt of calcium is in the vit...???

It has to go somewhere and the body holds on to it and it goes to the breast milk or the kidneys or the gall bladder.

Powdermilk is fabulous and easy for pups and mom

OR goats milk later when pups start to eat mush.

Mom will finish it up after the pups eat...Feed pups by themselves or Mom will eat it and they will not get any...

I had the same thing with a new mom a few months ago and called my repro vet immediately.  You need to strip the milk out of the affected nipple until the redness subsides.  Initially the milk from that gland was pus like but as I got more of it out it cleared.  The vet prescribed some antibiotics and the compresses.  It was better the following morning.

Sounds like mastitis, which is VERY painful (speaking from experience!) and can be serious if not caught and treated immediately. I wish I could remember what a mentor told me to use if it ever happened to my dogs...

While painful, expressing the milk is helpful in the longrun.

Yes, you need to strip the milk.  I had to put my female on Antibiotics and it cleared up.

Weigh those pups to make sure they are not losing weight, too. Good luck! jackie harris

To me, it sounds like possibly mastitis.  I have never run into that problem so I'm not sure of how you may fix this.  Personally, I would take my bitch to a very good repro vet.  Also, make sure that you trim the puppies nails so they do not scratch, I have seen friend's bitches refuse to nurse due to long and very sharp puppy nails!  Problem was resolved after the nails were trimmed.

Any updates?

I would definitely keep track of her temperature;  needs to be about 102.5;  not a lot higher, call your vet.  Nan

Nan, if my dog's temp was 102.5 degrees, I'd be calling my vet!
