I have a 3 year old male gsd, what can I put on top of his kible from Kirkland lamb and rice so he can eat all the food.im giving him 6 cups is this to much.

That is a lot of food for one meal. try feeding tow times a day. Maybe two cups in morning and three in evening. A little warm water usually makes it taste better.but let it get soggy. Put a little warm water on it and give to the dog right away.

Alexander, my post was a mistake ,I typed " let it get soggy" . That is supposed to be DO NOT let it get soggy.

If the dog is in good weight, I wouldn't worry about it. You are basically free feeding him and he is determining how much he eats.

A GDS an look thin to the rest of the world and be in good weight.

best,

My adult 80lb male is fed four cups one time a day, keeps perfect show condition weight, same food you are feeding. I think six cups is just too much for him. Feed him what he will finish in 15 minutes and then take it away to get his food drive back up. But I think it's just too much for him. I feed my adults once a day at night before bed so they are relaxed and no running around or playing, barking etc after they've eaten. Everyone has water 24 hours a day even at night.

My 4 yr old working GSD gets 2 cups of Kirkland in the AM and 2 in the PM.  I add 1/4 cup of Honest Kitchen Embark to each (volume totals approx. 5 cups per day).  He is 98 Lbs and gets walked when working (narc searches) and neighborhood walks.  The H/K product is a pretty expensive for a full meal and the Kirkland adds to the bulk food.

I agree 6 cups is alot but I would also add that maybe he really isnt that interested in the food. IMO you shouldnt need to add anything to the food for the dog to eat it. You could try a different food that is more caloric concentrated where he will eat less and will taste better to him. If I have a dog that is hard to maintain weight, Ill use Barking at the Moon. You can get it now at Petco for $60.00 a bag. It has helped some of my rescue mastiffs maintain good weight at 5 cups a day and thats for a 160lb dog.
