lol, congrats Fawn. Make a big pot of coffee (espresso shots highly recommended), a comfy chair in the whelping room, something to read, tons of clean cloths/rags/towels/whatever, a clock (write down the time each pup was born!!!)
Also, highly recommend giving her something with calcium in it while she's in labor...tums, yogurt, cottage cheese, goats milk...

Good luck, hope you don't have to work today, or tomorrow for that matter. Whelping puppies can be like hitting a brick wall when it's all over, you'll be so exhausted and achingly sore.

Euro, you said all of the right things and yes the part about being SOOOOOOOO sore and exhausted once it is all over.

No one ever tells you that you will have pains of your own once it is over and you really didn't even think or expect to have sore muscles especially your legs and butt, :):):)

Yes calcium is good. I always give liquid calcuim.

I think all is well.....Only 1 pup so far though. It has been 3 hours since it was born......She was sooo huge, I know there is more in there.

Yes, I took the whole week off....He is so cute. I will get pictures up either tonight or tomorrow (once all pups are born, 2 hour vet said please bring all in).

I hope I do not have to keep waiting hours between puppies.....

Don't let her go too long between puppies. Three hours is about the max.

GET HER UP AND GET HER WALKING to help with the labour. I learned this tip from a breeder with more than 40 years experience, and it WORKS! She even runs her dogs up and down stairs, so gravity can help things along.

Do you have a vet on call? With a large litter, many bitches need oxytocin (pitocin) to help the contractions, as they get tired towards the end.

The first litter I assisted with, the labour went on too long, and as a result we LOST THE LAST TWO PUPS.
