What does the colored collars on a new born litter mean.I see people say they have a green dog etc.?

Just wanted some info on the subject.

It's just a way to tell the puppies apart from one another.

. . . and it also means somebody has "deposited" or is "holding unto" that particular puppy.

Also, depending upon the age of the dog, having a "green dog" can mean a young, inexperienced dog showing promise in the sport or work.

Breeders tie little colored bits of yarn or string around newborn puppies' necks to tell them apart.  When you have 8 or 10 little squirming black and tan balls of fluff (or sable balls of fluff or whatever) it can be hard to tell them apart from day to day.  Puppies are weighed daily to keep track of how they are growing, and many breeders also keep track of temperament (green girl seems to dominate her littermates, purple boy was the first to leave the whelping box, yellow girl was the first to open her eyes, etc).  Wearing a colored collar doesn't necessarily mean the puppy is reserved, as most breeders put the yarn collars on the day the puppies are born.

The coloured ribbons are to identify the each puppy.
A green dog I believe ,is a dog that is trained ,
but is yet to participate and get it's qualifications in any trials.
