Does anyone know where I can get a "do not pet" harness for my puppy?  I don't mind going out in public with him, and talking to people who ask about him, but it never fails for people all the stinkin time to come up without asking and try to sweet talk/pet him while ignoring me.   It amazes me how people think they can do whatever they want just because of a cute puppy.   It could say something like "working dog do not pet" or just something along those lines.  He's about 23 lbs right now, I can measure his height, chest, etc if needed. I may allow certain people to pet after talking to them for a while when he's with me, but I want to use this because literally everyone is coming up to him to pet to the point that it's getting ridiculous.

Can you find a plain one and take it to an embroidery place?

Here is an "in training" patch. (sorry, on iphone so this may look muddled). There is also a "please do not pet, working dog" patch under the service dog tab, but I think it kind of implies that the dog is a service dog. Perhaps you could cover up "working dog" with the in training patch: http://www.sitstay.com/dog/supplies/servlet/product_10001_10001_40257_-1_In+Training+Patch_53407_53440_

Got my harness from Redline K9- as a tip they seem to run large as a L is too big for my 75lb boy. I got the "DO NOT PET" neon orange patches from Ray Allen. Be careful, because once you put those on, it seems MORE people want to come over and ask why they can't pet your dog, is he working? is he a service dog? is he a police dog?

Thanks everyone. howlk9, just curious, did people ever come up and ask if they couldn't pet because he would bite? I just wander if some will get that impression with a patch like that.  Something annoyed me the other day when I had Auggie out in town. Maybe the woman didn't mean this in a "bad way", but she told her daughter don't go up to that dog, he might bite you.......I'm just thinking....okay it's a 24 lb puppy.  I'm starting to get those "what's he mixed with questions too, and I'm sure when his coat fully changes him into a black sable.....I'll get many, many more what mix is he?

I just checked out that Redline K9, they have both a "Do not pet" and an "In training" badge. If you use both together, maybe people will clue in that the reason you don't want anyone to pet your dog is that he's in training, not because he bites?

Maybe so. I mean he doesn't bite lol, but I don't want people to get the idea of....oh, does your dog bite? Is that why I can't pet him? I just know how some people are.  I'll check that link out in a bit.

When I was training that Chip puppy, I told people all the time, "Please don't touch my dog". Their response, "Why, is it mean?". My response, "No, she isn't mean, I am training her to be a service dog and the most important thing she can do is to learn to interact with people without always expecting a reaction from her presence."

That worked 99% of the time.

The ONE time it didn't work, was an older gentleman telling me that if I was bringing a puppy out in public I should know better than to expect people not to pet her. My response? "Yes, that may be true, but you seem to be the only one not respecting the importance of the training I'm trying to do with her."

THAT was all it took. There will be some tough cookies, but it's as simple as pulling Auggie away if someone ignores your words and tries to pet him anyway. It's not being rude if other people are intentionally invading your personal space, and YOUR puppy is YOUR personal space.
