DDRCzechFan OMG....that explains a lot...carrots!!!
why didn't i think of that...i feed my older girl carrots in the summer as a snack (she is the only one that loves to eat them) and I always get comments on how gorgeous her coat looks, it has that copper shimmer mixed with black...and I always wonder why she is the only one that gets that when all 3 of them are on the same diet...LOL...major blonde moment here...LOL...

GSD's skin isn't generally prone to sunburn unless they have a very thin coat or a hairless area. Their coats protect the skin from the punishment of the UV rays.

I had heard this from an old German Breeder a few years ago, and while I have never had a dog with a vast majority of red in it's coat, he used to swear by it. It was funny to hear him go on and on about the carrots. "You must use carrots. You will do well in shows, with carrots!" LMAO, I always got a kick out of it, but people really do swear by them :)
