Greetings,

I am new to the German Shepherd world, but since I was a child I have always wanted one.  Things in my life are lining up (to include a very large back yard) and I have begun the research process on finding a "good" German Shepherd puppy.  What I am most interested in is a companion/personal protection (maybe) GS and while still new and learning as much as possible, I have communicated with the Miami, FL Breeder:

http://www.vomkirsys.com/

May I elicit some opinions on what the body writ large thinks of this group?  Particularly, I am interested in thoughts on Taureg V. Yanka and Taureg V. Jeannie (puppies will be "ready" about the time I would like to bring one home).

Thank you for your consideration and ANY further advice or sources of information will be greatly appreciated!

What type of gsd are you looking for--show line or working line?  Do a lot of research.  Asking here is a good start.

This seems to be jdiaz, showlines. Yes? A frequent poster.

You need to know if you want working/showlines, what kind of drives you want, health of the line and the litter, any guarentee, and is the breeder responsible or just in it for the money. I personally haven't heard anything about the breeder you're looking at, so I can't weigh in there. Highly recommend doing a lot of research to make sure that the breed and the pup is right for you. Check out the parents.

Hi , Just wanted  to say I have bought 3 dogs from Vom Kirsys. I  love what I got and they are beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much for the quick responses.  To Beetree if you are implying that "I" am jdiaz, sorry to disappoint you, but that is incorrect.  I have emailed to proprietor, and thus far they have been responsive and helpful in their replies.

As for line of dog I am interested in that is difficult to say.  From my initial readings, I do not see my family and I showing or entering our future GS in competitions (due to personal inexperience).  Additionally, we do not hold plans to breed the dog in the future either.  That said, I would prefer a loyal, energetic, family companion with "flexibility".

I think the overriding concern for us at the moment is the health of the puppy and ensuring that it is "free" of disorders- leading to a long and healthy life.

Ranger,
bee is only saying that jdiaz posts here.... good luck on your quest

Ahhh upon a second reading GSDPACK you are most correct- sorry for the confusion Bee.  As folks may be familiar with this organization, any opinions?

There is so much information out there (it appears) and with often conflicting views.  My concern is with all of the available preferences I am losing the bubble on what I envision.  Additionally, the cost ranges to be an owner seem so diverse (I seen some for $300 while others start at $3000)- which is quite a commitment in and of itsself.

As I do not yet have a depth of knowledge, perhaps if I submit what I would be looking for in a GS, some suggestions on what fit may meet my needs would arise and help in my endeavors.

What I would like in a GS:
1. I am partial to a more straight backs GS.  A small slope ("roach") is ok, but anything very drastic would nto be preferred
2. Black and tan coloration vice the more "exotic" patterns
3. Drive- I am a bit unclear on this.  Obviously nothing so hyper that training is impossible, but yet not so disinterested as well.  I guess a big factor would be NOT nervous/scared/gun shy.
4. Family friendly and attentive to my young son

The breeder you're speaking with should be able to accomodate everything you're looking for and has the experience to help you select a puppy with the appropriate temperament for your experience and family situation.
