Any of you guys ever dealt with this injury before?  What treatments worked best for you?  How much recovery time?  What did you do differently with your dog to prevent this from happening again?  Thanks!

I have.  My schutzhund dog injured his iliopsoas in November 2011.  I took him to physical therapy where he does underwater treadmill, cold laser therapy, stretching, and regular work on the exercise ball.  It takes a long time to get over this injury, and if you do not do consistent therapy for a prolonged period of time, you run the risk of re-injury.  My dog is back to schutzhund training, but I waited more than 3 months to do this, and I am still taking him for all of the treatment I mentioned.  My advice is to go to a rehab person who has extensive experience with this injury.

These injuries can be tricky to rehab.  If not rehabed properly they often just reoccur.  Physical therapy exercises 3x per week to strengthen and keep muscles strectched and strong.  I have an agility dog and this is a common injury among our group.  I got exercises from my Pt which I do at home 3x a week and see the Pt every 2 -3 weeks for stretching and cold laser therapy. Consult with a PT to set up a program for your dog.
