Well, after months of research, listening, reading, reflecting, and learning....I have to admit that the German way of establishing a breedworthy dog is notable.  But, I still am going to keep my GSDCA membership and support their performance classes.  Thus, I will be joining GSDCA-WDA.

So, I meet saturday with a ScH club (USA one) to see if my girl has what it takes.  Wish us luck!!  I need to be able to get at least a ScH 1 title to get her a breed survey someday.

From my limited knowledge, it appears that I can't get a USA Breed Survey in the future since I can't join USA if I am a GSDCA member. Therefore, I would need to get a WDA breed survey under a SV judge....I think.

Now, I am going to show her at an SV style show put on by the GSDCA-WDA in JUNE. Here is were I need some help!!

Does anyone know of anybody in New England that can help me get her ready and can handle her in ring for me so I can run around the outside of the ring like a crazy person!  And..as an outsider looking in....it does look like absolutely insanely crazy people running around screaming and honking! My Lord!! How bizarre!!  Anyway, I did contact the person who is the contact for the show amd am waiting to hear back.

I posted her conformation before and people thought she was definitely a G and most thought had a good shot at SG as well.

The judge is: Herr Wilhelm Nordsieck. Does this judge like working line dogs as I have a straight up DDR/WL girl. People posted before that I must find a judge that is ok with WL dogs.

Waiting to hear back from show contact,....But, just in case they can't offer anybody who can help me....Can anyone offer a lead and the name of someone who may be able to help?  As somebody posted before, I need to be prepared as possible as it could be the difference between a G and a SG.  I did show and handle her myself to a UKC Championship but I know teh SV shows are a whole 'nother can of beans!

My girl turns 1 in May so I believe I would do the youth class for dogs that don't need working titles.

If all goes well saturday than I will start training towards a BH and schutzhund title.  But, I am not giving up our weekly herding lessons!  Plus, she has a weekly obedience class. I don't know how the heck I am going to fit all the training in and still be a Mom and Wife. Yikes!!!

Luckily, I have a 5 year old starting kindergarten this Fall which will free up a lot of time. I am thinking there is tracking training and protection training I need to add to our weekly herding and obedience training. Any tips from people on managing time and fitting training in without neglecting your family?

I am showing her for her CGC and Rally novice title next month as well. We also do puppy agility class on a drop in basis.

This is my first registered GSD so I want to do right by her.

Any suggestions for showing, training, or finding help would be very much appreciated. I am starting to panic as I feel I don't have much time as June is approaching. Plus, I am completely clueless..have never even seen a SV style show except on youtube.

Thanks,
Sara

Looks like you're on the right road, you've done a really great job already.  You ask some really good questions.  I don't know the answers to your questions (I don't know the Judge, what handlers will be at the show and I don't have children)

My best guess to finding a handler who is available for your class at the show is to look at the website of the club that is hosting the show (sometimes clubs will allow advertising on their websites for handlers, etc) or directly contact the club hosting the show and ask them if they know of any handlers coming to the show who are looking for more dogs to handle.

Good Luck :)

Thank you!  Yes, I contacted the show person and asked them but I am waiting to hear back!!

This has sure been an educational journey for me! My pup and I are doing things I never thought we would do!!  She's such a good girl and is always up for anything I throw at her!! I just love her!!!

Thanks again,
Sara

Mr Nordsieck is the right judge to go if you have WL.He has no problem to give SG or V rating to a WL dog if the dog has the structure it should have.We got SG under him with our male Canto z Gemera http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=610009 and this female Judy z Vojanky http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=682507 got V rating at the very same show /she looks better when stacked correctly than on this photo here on PDB/.

This female Panta Tur-Lad also got V rating under him - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=691990 .

Oh, ok! Thanks for that....Some people have sent PMs that the judge doesn't like working line and others, like yourself, say that he is fine with working lines!! LOL  I guess that's showing for you!

Well, maybe I will just try it as it is the closest show to me. If I get a low rating can I show at another show this year or do I have to wait until next year to try to get a higher rating? Is it a one shot deal?

Thanks,
Sara

Sara, I think it's awesome that you are trying to this! It is a lot of work and I wish you tons of luck!! This judge is what I would call very fair to working lines and rewards a properly structured dog. You can show at as many shows as you like and certainly do not have to wait for a year. The waiting is only in regards to the breed survey. Just make sure your dog is very well ring trained before the show. This will help you in that the judge sees that you have been working with your dog and DO care about his placing and are not wasting the judge's time with an unruly dog that, because of it's behavior, the judge can not see it's true conformation and movement.
Hope that helps some!

Djc,

Thank you! It is a bit intimidating but I want to give it my best shot. I hope saturday goes well with our first ScH training club meeting.....

Thanks also for answering my question about the judge and about being able to show multiple times!

Yes, I have her well trained to stack and gait. But, it was for UKC. I hope to find someone to help me get her ready for the SV style. If I can find a handler and I can run around the ring than awesome! Or, maybe I can handle and have my son run around calling her. But, he's 5 so not sure if he'll be able to do it! But, my dog LOVES him and would definitely be animated for him!!

Thanks again,
Sara

Do SV style conformation judges take pedigree into account when giving ratings or just the dog in front of them?

Thanks,
Sara
