HIP XRAYS, ONE HIP NORMAL, ONE NOT???

Have any of you out there had a young GSD that you've xrayed come back with one normal hip, and one that's not normal? I just xrayed a 13 month old female for her pre-lim OFA'S and the xray shows one normal hip, and the other one is not, it only has about half coverage into the socket. She has not had any injuries that I am aware of, and I sent them in to see what OFA has to say. I'm just wondering if any of you out there have had the same experience, and what may have caused it. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Unilateral hip dysplasia is not so uncommon. Go to OFA website and see if you can see something on there about it.

Well just on OFA's site, and searched "unilateral HD" and got nothing. but thanks for the tip. anyone else with any opinions?

I just had one that got rated OFA Good when I did pre-lims, and when I went to do officials, she had severe unilateral. I am waiting for the OFA report to see if they mark anything else, but it's so obvious that anybody can see the bone remodeling, it's a square peg in a round hole. Such a difference in a short amount of time. Sad. The vet where I took the x-rays thought perhaps an injury, asked if she had been hit by a car. But I later found out that another pup from the same sire also had severe unilateral at 2 years. So, sometimes injuries, other times genetics.

yes , i had a dog go OFA servere HD , one hip looked bad while the other looked very good , so who really know if it gentic or not. i am guessing it is. the funny thing if you see this dog today you would never guess she has a bad hip , she moves so nicely, she is now 6 years.

Actually I got my OFA report today, and they classified it as moderate unilateral. Looked pretty severe to me, and the vet where we went for the x-rays wrote SEVERE in capital letters and underlined it! Of course there were changes in the other joint as well from compensating for the bad side, and much to my surprise, the elbows came back as Grade 1 DJD, which were also normal on pre-lims. This is a dog that came from normal parents, with a history of normal, and siblings that we tested were also normal. Lost the genetic lottery there, but you'd never know looking at her or seeing her run agility that she has all those problems.

If you don't mind... what age was she when you got her pre-lims? What age did you start her in agility? Do you have photos of the pre-lims and officials? I am very sorry but glad to hear she doesn't know she has any issues.
