How very sad I'll say a prayer for them tonight. I donated what I can today & will do more tomorrow. I posted the link on my facebook page as well.

That is so heartbreaking. The "chipin" button is working now. It is very easy to make a donation.

A friend with an GSD took the dog to a brain vet specialist and that was at least $3,000 and no insurance.  Then the dog was taken for radiation and just that and NO other costs was $10,500.  Human had to stay over for 3 days with motel and food costs.  Human had to go back for check ups with 300 miles round trip and gasoline fill ups of one and half round.  Then there was surgery on a back problem and had to stay over for a week and a half with motel costs and food costs.  This surgery was over $7,000.  Then there were problems of some other kinds and that was at least $1,500 or more.  The dog had to be taken to a local specialist and that has cost $250 and the cost tomorrow for a scan which may be $1,100 more.

So this non fancy pedigree has cost say $27,000 to $28,000 WITHOUT the cost tomorrow of the $1,100 and maybe more tests with totally unknown amounts at this time, as the kinds are totally unknown.

No insurance, no outside help of ANY kind.  All is coming out of the owner's pocket called savings account that the owner had saved for something totally different.  Owner has old old house and has used no heating this winter.  Has 14 year old car.  Has used stored canned food to save money.

No begging, notice!!!!!

k9nme -- I truly hope you are not saying that there is something wrong with someone asking for help in time of emergency from fellow dog owners and friends. That would be pretty sad and dissapointing. I'm sure had your friend asked for help from the dog community they would have been just as happy to do what they could. I don't personally know the owner of this dog, I do know a couple of her friends, but my heart breaks for her and I understand the added pressure of a huge bill and that is why I have posted this to be seen where others could do what they could to help. I'm sure hoping to hear differently from you and that I misinterpreted the last line of your post.

k9nme -

is this mystical "friend" a loved member of the Schutzhund family?

Your post is quite heartless......go back under your rock......

The price of medical care for our dogs can be staggering at some times.

If people want to chip in and help I think that is a fine thing, I hope if I am ever in the same situation people would help me.

And no, if my phone is not ringing 5x's a day or if I'm not being accosted on the street I don't consider that begging.

Leoetta,,,

What you are doing in re-posting this is what folks should do for their friends,,,I have noticed over time that the dog world is really very small..We need each other in many ways..Most of us can easily afford $20.00 and I hope we will pull together to help lift a small bit of her burden...

The link you posted worked very easily

k9nme, it's an individual's choice--if they're 'too proud' or independent or whatever and don't want to ask for help, I don't hold that against them. But if you don't ask, then the answer is always going to be 'No'...I've never met the owner of Kobe and Jovi, and I frankly doubt I ever will. So what? I really don't understand condemning acts of generosity and compassion. It's not as if this situation arose from something the owner of these poor dogs intentionally did or didn't do, and it's certainly not something one can realistically plan for... If you think it's in bad taste, why not just ignore it and move on?
