Hello Everyone

I am looking at getting a new family member in a german shepherd girl. I am not an expert, and I am looking for a pet dog. I do not intend to breed or do any work with the dog.

I have a choice of two litters and I was wondering if anyone can give me their valuable opinion to help me decide which litter to go with.

The first is

Figo von Arminius 2000 with Quanti vom Raumberg

or

Figo von Arminius 2000 with Bria Vom RaDa's Diek

or

Xarto vom Funken Spiel with Uzzy vom Funken Spiel (This pair has already had a litter together and the breeder said the litter was great, temeperament etc.)

Any advice??????????

Thanks in advance.

If you are not going to be working the dog or breeding the dog and it is just a pet, have you considered rescue? It sounds like your family could really help a dog in need, as far as the dogs listed I am sure all those dogs would be just fine in the role of family member. Remember that all Shepherds are higher energy and higher drive dogs and even if you don't want to work the dog you will have to make sure to get that energy out somehow.

Hi,

It would be best if you could pay a visit to the breeder and see the parents.
That way you would have a better idea of parents looks and their behavior.

If you can't visit a breeder then its a guess game based on posted pictures and breeders opinion.
However please note, everything is a personal preference.

Following would be my personal preference based on pictures and my limited knowledge:

I would suspect that for Quanti Vom Raumberg this is her first litter. She has a decent pedigree but if this is her first litter I would not be very interested in that. Seeing her adult picture and seeing her in person would be likely the deciding factor.

As for Bria von RaDa's Diek I would inquire about her hip and elbow rating....both of her parents are "fast normal"....just something to think about. Also the stack picture of her posted on pdb is not that great, on it she appears to be not in proportional dimensions to me.

From all 3 females you posted I like Uzzy vom Funken Spiel the most. She has decent lineage and she is typeful GSD female.

Both males are OK. However based on the posted pictures I give a slight advantage to Xarto vom Funken Spiel. Reason for that is that he has IPO2 working title, and I like his head shot better than the one of Figo von Arminius 2000. Xarto has also decent progeny list on PDB where Figo has non (maybe is not entered). To me Figo appears to be an oversized male (over 65cm) but pictures can be deceiving. Figo's ear-set is not to my personal liking.

So to summarize my choices:

#1 Xarto vom Funken Spiel X Uzzy vom Funken Spiel
#2 Figo von Arminius 2000 X Quanti vom Raumberg
#3 Figo von Arminius 2000 X Bria Vom RaDa's Diek

Again, this is just my personal opinion based on my limited knowledge about these dogs.
Good luck with your decision :)

if you arnt going to do any work why are you looking at puppies specifically bred to work?

What about health check's and certifications; except hips/elbows I do not see any other health certifications?  I would be looking for that also then pick whatever type you like best.  At least inquire about heath check's?  BOL  Nan

I think these litters are capable of producing pet quality dogs.  You don't need to 'work' them in schutzhund, PP or agility, but they will need to be taught  obedience and  given lots of exercise and play.

I agree with nickn, the best thing to do would be to go and see the parents.  Ask about any issues such as allergies, EPI, bloat, DM, weak ears and anything else you can think of that you'd like to avoid in a dog. :)  You can also see the parents temperament and structure, unstacked and natural.  Price is an important issue, as all pups are a crap shoot, and guarantees are iffy at best.
All the best finding your pup!
I love puppies, and a GSD can be so rewarding once you have taught it how to be a well behaved member of your family.

Not all GSD's are high energy and high drive.
