Is anyone familiar with this dog? if so, what can you say about him?

I imported a female who was pregnant by him. The female was a Sch1, a small bitch, very drivey, handler-soft, but very sound nerves.

The litter out of Faddo produced handsome dogs, mostly quite handler-soft, low-to-medium drives, no orthopedic problems (no pano, ED or HD) and pretty much no other health problems. Three females and one male--all in pet homes and much loved. Not exactly what I expected out of the father, though.

Blackthorn, was it the low-med drives or the handler soft that dissapointed you? What was Faddo like? I've seen a couple of videos, but nothing detailed about him.

It would have been nice if the stud had improved on the handler-sensitivity of the mother or maintained the drive level in the puppies. But the pups were lower drive and, for the most part, more sensitive than their mom. And, from a dog who went to the WUSVs twice, I would have expected him to have pretty good drive levels, and from his pedigree, I would have thought he'd have a nice balance of drives and good hardness and trainability.

I never met him--the female was pregnant when I bought her.

Wow
Good for you Blackthorn! So nice to
see a breeder being honest about
what they got from a breeding!

Interesting Blackthorn, your honesty is refreshing!  Do you mind sharing the female's name? Or maybe some dog's in the female's line?

This is the female: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=506697

She produced some really nice pups out of my Coal--one son training in live find SAR in Georgia, another that I'm working in HRD and competition agility, and a female that I'm working in herding and AKC rally obed. Good drive, sound nerves, very athletic, very trainable--lots of herding instinct, too. The two I kept are a touch handler-sensitive for my tastes, but very smart and fun to work, lots of prey drive, high possession, good noses, excellent hunt drive. I've never done any bitework with either of them--the male would probably have been very good at schutzhund.

I liked Danca herself quite a bit, and she was a good dam and her puppies have been healthy and mentally sound. She's retired and living on 15 acres with her very own human family.
