I spent roughly 12 hours yesterday with Axel in Super Bowl Village in Indianapolis. The Today Show was taping when we got there so it was already crowded but it built to an estimated 35,000 people by early evening when we decided that it could get out of control and made our exit. Complete sensory overload for a dog and the boy took it in stride for the most part. There was never any point in time where I felt like I didn't have his attention but I had his ball on a rope in my pocket just in case and it came in handy distracting him when my girlfriend left his sight. Overall, it was a great day for Axel; he did his job as the quintessential ambassador of the breed making hundreds of new friends and being the object of more pictures than I can count.

There was one near incident in which someone inadvertantly stepped on his tail. He reacted as anyone would expect but was immediately called off providing yet another testament to the value of handlers being hyper-vigilant at all times with their dogs in public.

Ax was noticably mentally tired by the time we got home last night...but he waited until we got home to rest. This is the German Shepherd Dog.

Perfect example Keith!

I wonder how many dogs could
keep their shit together in a crowd
like that! You would be amazed at what
you might see in your dog (or NOT see)
by putting them in a situation like this.

It's perfectly normal for a dog to be
mentally tired after something like that,
hell, people are too!
