Hi ! I have a 10 month old GSD pup ........ one of his ears is still not up fully. Had done taping ...... but had to remove it in 3 days as he developed an infection . Will taping now help his ears .

Leave the poor dogs ears alone is my advice.

I saw that Scweikert has some nice looking foam molds for ears. If I were to use them I would take them and the dog to my vet and let him do it.
There are lot of recommendations on feeding and natural supplements that are posted here that might help too.

Why are you trying to make the dog something it is not. His character is the same and he will work the same with a floppy/soft ear. He is not breedworthy so why are you subjecting your dog to infection for cosmetics? Just leave the poor thing's ears alone and NO it won't help at 10 months, if they are still soft after taping the ear is not going to stand.

No, they're not going to stand. I'm totally against taping up ears on GSDs. The reason they work on say Dobermans is because their ears get cut and you can shape the way the scar tissue will form, and the scar tissue will hold. Constant infections aren't going to help your dog. It's a cosmetic thing.

Hi All ! ......... Thanks for your comments & advice :-) . Its human nature to want the best for yourself & also for someone you love ...... my puppy buddy. My pup has all the traits & markings of the champion bloodline he comes from ......... except for the top tip of his left ear :-( It's almost there ...... but not fully :-) The breeder was also surprised & so suggested taping ....... which went wrong in just a couple of days :-(
He is one big handsome guy ...... & as someone said his tip turned ear will make him look a puppy forever :-) Just wanted to give him 100% ....... standing ear or tip turned ....... he's the best thing that's happened to us after we lost our last dog in 2010.

If the ear is not injured, it is not to late to tape @ 10 mo.
I have seen lots of ears taped with no issue. Was the infection internal to the ear.

I've never had a GSD with floppy ears, thank goodness, but I can understand why someone would want to try and fix it.
One thing I look for when purchasing a pup, is good strong ears in the parents.

It is worth a try. Is the infection under control? Was the infection due to taping?

I can understand wanting to do it, but if it's the tip top of a ear, it doesn't seem like it would be genetic, maybe injured somehow?
