Lepto reax - Page 1

I have a 1 year old female GSD. She was fine until Tuesday morning when she got her 2nd lepto vax. (She already had DHPP, Rabies, bordatella and 1st lepto.) About 3 hours later, she stopped interacting with me or my other dogs and went to lie down. Did not eat that night, the next day or the third morning.  took her in and she had a 106* fever. No obvious signs of any other illness or injury. We've had her on subcut. fluids since then, she is still very listless and withdrawn. Fever hovering between 104 and 106. The vet does not believe it to be a reaction to the lepto vax because it is too differnet from any reaction she has ever heard about.
Anyone else had this type problem with lepto vax?

First at foremost....I'm so sorry.  To me, this certianly sounds like a reaction to the vaccine. She was healthy prior to the vaccines, then within hours she is very sick....ofcourse it was the vaccine!  And ofcourse, your vet (like most doctors)  will never admit it!   Were the other vaccines all done recently as well? 

Anything with an immune system can have a vaccine reaction.  I had a horrible vaccine reaction last year that just about killed me and since then I have learned WAYYYY too much about vaccines.  If you go on youtube and watch the trailer to "the greater good" movie, you would see how far it has gotten in people (the 16yr old girl in the movie had the same vaccine as I did).  In my oppinion, your girl needs to see a good holistic vet to help remove the toxins out of her body and to calm her immune reaction.  She still needs to be on fluids if that is an issue.  In my oppinion, other then offering support like fluids, your vet just wont be able to help your girl with this issue if it is vaccine related.  If I had followed the advice of my doctors for my issues, I would probably be disabled or dead.  I believe Jenni from this board has had a dog with a vaccine reaction and should be able to offer some advice, I'm sure she will see this thread and respond.  I myself have had a rescued cat who was BOMBARDED with vaccines when we got him, he went into convulsions on and off for weeks but recovered and lived a long and healthy life.  Best of luck :(  It breaks my heart you and your girl have to go through this. 

Oh, and BTW....NO MORE VACCINES.....NO MORE for her, even if your vet tells you to, the next one may kill her.

Now I do not even give the older dogs nada/

If we travel, everyone gets a 5 shot.

And NEVER give a rabies shot the same day as the DPHV

Sorry to hear that...Of course the F.... Vet will say that, to keep people coming, I never give Lepto either. After puppy shots, just 5 in 1 t around 5 years and that's it.

NEVER...NEVER give Lepto...Unless you have a problem in your area...

I also give the 5 in 1 and try to hold off giving the Rabies Shot as long as possible...*@ 1 year would be good...

Vet's recommend giving ALL kinds of shots...It's their BIG business and they make all kinds of money giving them...But in truth our dogs don't need all the damn shots we give them or that is recommended by our vets...

I'm sorry to hear that. I work at a vet clinic as a vet tech, and I'm 100% against giving lepto vaccines, because I've seen sooooooo many dogs have reactions to it.

I work in a vet office as well.. and have seen many cases of Lepto (it can be deadly and is contagious to humans).  And I think any dog who has its nose to the ground, works in field, or is ANYWHERE wildlife or water may be should consider the vaccine.  All three of mine have the vaccine and have never had a reaction. If you live in the city or don't take your dogs to places that he/she would be susceptable... then there isnt a need.

Your dog already had the first vaccine, it is HIGHLY unlikely it would react to it the 2nd time.. and NOT react to it at the FIRST time it was given.  Which is why your vet probably said it wasnt a normal reaction.

Though if that is the only thing that had happened to your pet, I would put it high on the list and NOT vaccinate for it again as a precaution. 

As to the person who made the "big business" statement regarding vets... I'm sure there are a ton of them out there.  I am happy to work in one that is not, where the veterinarians are happy to "offer" vaccines they feel would benefit pets at certain life stages and not shove them down their throats. 

At our hospital we have numerous pets that only come in for annuals and are not vaccinated due to their health or their age (and that includes Rabies).  And I don't feel it is fair to tell someone to Disregard their veterinarian.... just find one that suits you and your pet and that doesnt make you feel like a piece of crap if you don't vaccinate for certain things.

Why is this dog not on IV Fluids?

The vaccine company will reimburse you for any treatments if your vet will say it is a reaction to the vaccine.

She was taken to the vet and put on IV fluids the second day- when I noticed the fever. She has been there every day since, coming home at night. Today (Sun) her fever is down to 103.
