At the farm and feed today the guy there told me I could use the safeguard dewormer for goats to worm for tapeworms.
I was wondering if this wormer will take care of the different types of tapeworms. I never thought about asking that because at
the time I was not considering using it.  If anyone has used this, and are willing to share the 411 on it, did you have good results
with it or not?

Thanks in Advance.

DUH!!!  Laughing at myself!!!   I know it willl work for goats but I was wondering if it would work for dogs to rid of the different types of tapes. I forgot to add that little bit of info. LOL.

So sorry!!!

sure, but it has to be used for 5 days in a row for it to take care of tapes,

I've used fenbendazole (in the form of Safeguard goat) and praziquantel to treat tape.  Both seem to clear up the problem.  The former I did on my own when I saw the tapeworm in the stool; the latter was prescribed for a different dog and before I knew about safeguard.

Fenbendazole is normally given once everyday for 3 days.  I put it in the dog's food and they eat it without problem.

If your dogs have tapes, they probably have fleas too. You need to treat both. BTW those are not eggs you see on the stool; they are segments of the tapeworms. Droncit is the drug of choice.

Blitzen,
This is a 6month old puppy we picked up on Sunday.  I have my other dogs on Comfortis.
We do not have a flea problem, THANK GOD, I stay on top of it.
I was just curious because of what the guy at the Farm and Feed Store said.
I already have this puppy on a treatment and preventative plan. So we are good to go. Hopefully we will
see result very soon.!

Perfectly safe.
No different than the liquid or pills
your vet will Rx you at triple the price.
Relatively safe dewormer as well.

Not everyone realizes that tapes generally mean fleas. Many I know who have had dogs for years still think that tapes pass from dog to dog.

Drontal Plus; a one shot deal gets it all.  Including whip;  safeguard for dogs no longer gets whip; safeguard for goats will get whip and all others but need to administer for 5 days consequitively; (can't spell this AM) and if you have seen something in the stool, repeat in 2-4 weeks for another 3-5 days;  be sure to get the doseage correct.  I forget what the dosage is but something like 1 CC/10 lbs of body weight.??  Not sure though someone will chime in with dosage.  BOL  Nan
