Dog Food That Adds Weight - Page 1

I'm trying to add weight and muscle to my rotty. Back in the day for that. I used to feed my dog Sir Johns dog food. Having problems finding that now. Anyone know where it's sold? Or, is there a food that's out there that adds weight and muscle to your dog?

Try to find Evo if you are dedicated to kibble based dog food.  It is very high in KCal per pound and high in protein. 

You can also look at adding some fat to the dog food you have.  You need to be careful doing this as too much Fat can push a dog into pancreatitis.  A couple of table spoons of oil in the food morning and night can add Calories without adding bulk. 

I like a fish based oil.. but Safflower oil and Canola oil can help too.  I just think the animal based oil fits more with a dog than other oils and might be more digestible, but it is not inexpensive (neither is Evo).  That being said, in winter I have started to add Canola oil because it is cheap and it is cold out and the dogs burn more calories.  I have not had an issue, though I have not been doing this for long (a month).   Dog food companies typically add chicken fat to their food to increase callories (cheaply). 

I know in horses adding corn oil or wheat germ oil means you need to add Vitamin A because the oil interferes with Vitamin A absorption.  I have NO IDEA if dogs have a similar issue (and have looked and found nothing).   Dogs go to the Vet next month.  I will ask about that then. 

Are you in the UK? and do you mean Dr Johns? If so you can still buy Dr johns... Silver medal is the better of the 3 I feel, if going the commercial food route.
