My youngest gsd Heidi, a one year old female, somehow managed to take a chunk out of her upper right thigh a few days ago when she was playing outside (have no idea what she did). Did not notice she was even hurt right away because she acts like nothing is wrong. Took her to the vet and they tried staples, but they did not work (kept coming out). So, vet removed staples. Heidi is on antibiotics. We are letting the gash heal on its own. Having a cone head is no fun!

Poor girl ------- She doesn't look to be too unhappy about the new look though.

Use Granulex Spray on the wound a couple times a day. Wounds heal remarkably well with little to no visible scarring. You can usually find it at tack and feed stores.

I am so sorry to hear this about your GSD. Well, thank God she is still alive. Those cones are a pain in the butt. They always get caught on everything. I stopped using those years ago and now use a BiteNot Collar. They are harder for your dog to remove and they work much better. Hope your pooch gets well soon!

A few years back, I bought a "soft cone" for Jyota when she managed to injure herself. It did the job and she didn't seem to mind wearing it.
