Hello everyone,

I am trying very hard to learn as much as I possibly can about my puppy's pedigree and lines. I was hoping the knowledgable members could help me learn how to read his pedigree. If anyone here can tell me some stuff about the dogs in Hunter's pedigree, I would greatly appreciate it. I want to become familiar with these lines, since pedigree awareness is quickly becoming a fun hobby for me - not to mention it is important to know where your dog comes from.

I am familiar with Cayos, Hilde and Ufo. A little familiar with Justin and Fado - but any info on these dogs is greatly appreciated.

Also, I am under the impression he is West German working lines on the top and bottom?

Here's my pup:

S-Hunter vom Geistwasser -

Thank you everyone! I greatly appreciate the help!

Yes, he is West working top and bottom. Those are names you should be able to search on here and find threads about them that might give you enough info to come up with specific questions.

Is he a good pup? Are you enjoying him?

Thank you very much, Jenni.

He is a wonderful pup. I couldn't ask for anything better for me, personally. Incredible on and off switch, lazy and loving in the house and very driven and energetic in training. I am training in Schutzhund, and he has just the right amount of drive and energy for a Schutzhund newbie like me. He loves to track, has a fantastic full, calm grip and likes to fight for the tug as a reward (much like Cayos). He has excellent focus and loves to work. I also noticed that he gets very 'serious' about the tug, and is very confident/serious when on the sleeve (the two times we tried a puppy sleeve just to see his drives/reaction).

Very interested in learning about the dogs who helped produce him, hopefully it will give me tools to better train and work with him. ;)

Very interesting pedigree. Both the top and bottom have very strong producing females as well as the males. You might want to search on you tube and see what you can come up with in so far as seeing them in action. Who are you training with out of curiosity? He is very nice looking. I hope you enjoy your journey with him. Make the most out of it!
I also own a Kulla girl, Jetta Vom Geistwasser IPO I

Thank you very much for your reply, Richram. It is very cool that you are the owner of Jetta, I have seen many pictures of Jetta - gorgeous dog!

I am not training with anyone right now... we're just working towards a BH until we can find a certified helper to join a club my friend and I have started.

I will definitely plug all the names into youtube tonight and see if anything comes up - thanks for the advice! Can you tell me which dogs you consider to be strong producers?

I am starting to become a big fan of Staatsmacht kennels.  Even thought they didn't do THIS particular breeding the dam is from their breeding.  They produce some top notch dogs from what I can tell so far.

Ace - I have heard some very nice things about Staatsmacht kennel as well, I believe Hilde (Hunter's dam) is out of their foundation female, Orla.

Thank you for your imput!

Actually Ufo is a Belgium bred dog, yes, he goes back to some W German working lines, but he is actually Belgium born.

You have a pretty nicely bred pup from a good breeder. Bill is well known for liking strong dogs, some dogs not for the "faint of heart".
Bill has always been a "call it as he see's it" kind of guy so would not sugar coat anything, nor would he ever breed to a weak dog, or own one.

The owner of the sire is also a straight shooter and has been in the sport forever too. You should have a lot of fun with this pup!
You could contact the owner of the sire for more info on his dog and I am betting he would be more than willing to help you with any info you could want.
Staatsmacht kennel is now in the USA as well, so you could talk to them too, although being Bill and Jen own Hilde, they would be a better source of info for her, but Staatsmacht could tell you more about their own program.

Oh, I didn't realize Ufo was from Belgium originally. Thank you for the information!

LOSH and St Huberts are Belgium registeries.
