Two Moons

by Two Moons on 01 December 2011 - 00:12

My bitch has puppies going on five weeks old now, been eating solid food for about a week now.
Today someone dumped a deer carcass at the side of the road and my dog's found it right away, for fear of poison I took some meat away from my dogs and kenneled them until I can move the carcass.
I took a piece from my bitch who was taking it to her puppies, later I saw my bitch regurgitate a piece of meat and give it to one pup like a wild coyote or wolf would do, this is the first time I've ever seen a domestic dog do this.
I wondered if raw feeders had ever seen their bitch regurgitate food for puppies.

My Beauceron bitch always regurgitated for her pups. Raw or kibble, didn't seem to matter. It always seemed to annoy her LOL. I'd let her out to potty and have a little solitude and when she'd come back in all the pups would of course be clamoring. She'd regurgitate and then look at me like "Seriously, this is what I've become?". It always made me feel bad for her but I still chuckled ;).

Thanks Annette,
I figured someone else had to have seen this happen before, but it's something I've never seen any of my bitches do.

The little shit swallowed it before I could get it from him, about the size of a quarter, and we have had people use deer carcasses before to poison coyotes.

Just a little too close to home for me, damned people.

Two Moons:

My foundation Bitch regurgitated her food for the pups. First time she did it , I grabbed it up..She looked at me like   HEY MOM: these are my pups..not yours...

SO she did it again that night and I left the nursery , and didn't watch the pups eat it..

Hexi did the same thing and both were and are most excellent bitch dogs you could ask for.

Out of the three breeding females I have had, one did do this.  The other two (mother/daughter) did not.  It was odd for sure, but I did see her bring up food for the puppies several times.  The pups were more than happy to eat it!

The first time she did it, I tried to clean it up thinking she just puked.  Then realized what was really happening.

All three females were raw fed... one was born/raised on raw from the time she was weaned herself.

I guess it's more common than I thought then.
I've had bitches carry in game before but this was a first, I knew she wasn't just throwing up but it was still in my mind about the deer.

My main concern was the source, I almost lost a dog one year because a deer had been tossed out with poison to kill coyotes.
I heard them, the coyotes come in on it right after dark so maybe by tomorrow it will be gone.

Maddy has been a good mom, this is her third litter, this reinforces my opinion of her even more.

If I found out some one was setting out poision for coyotes I have to go on a ass kicking binge...

Puppies licking at the mouth of the bitch helps influence the bitch to bring food back up wild or domestic. Mother nature knows it all.

My female Sierra regurgitates food every time.  She'll does this when they start teething until they're about 6 and 1/2 to 7 weeks old.  It always drove me nuts because often times....I already fed the puppies, then I fed her....and guess what...Right after she eats she goes to them and regurgitates her food for them.

No one was sick or dead this morning so I wont worry about this one, not much left after last night anyway, the coyotes do a fine job of cleaning up the mess of some hunters who simply dump their left overs at the side of the road.
It's always on someone else's road of course.
