Have any of you have experence with this in the GSD? Do ant of you test for it?

Yes. The females can carry the factor and not show it. The male is suppose to show it to carry it. It is a sex-linked gene. But maybe the male has it but for some reason does not show it. Canto had it but no one talked about it. As I understand, he died young. Several of his offspring were declared free.
One cannot know how far down it can be carried downward. And if Canto had it what about his parents???? What about his siblings??? If Canto's problem was kept so quiet which other dogs had it and it was never known???? Unless no males with it were bred and any female out of a male with it are never bred, it will still be there somewhere.
I understand that there are about 3 or 4 of this kind of factor.
