Not sure about GSD's vs. Bears but I'm pretty sure the GSD's would win against the Colts.

I would get real serious about this breed if I had bears in my yard.  Sarplaninac

I think many people with dogs who have bear in the area are "generally" on guard such as myself who has a generous population of bear, wolves and fishers in the area where I am in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Now the bears are in hibernation as we received 6" of snow back on Nov 8, but then the deer start to yard up come mid December and the wolves move in more concentrated  to prey upon the deer yards for their winter food which is only a mile from where I live. Is just a way of life when you live in the areas where these critters also live. I am always on guard when tracking .... as my tracking borders the Ottawa National Forest ........  In closing I have seen a few nasty encounters with bear and bear hunting hounds and even a year and a half old bear at 150lbs can be a danger let alone something with a cub.......... Interesting breed, Judy P; I wonder if they're related to Caucasian Ovcharkas?

Apparently the dog received minor injuries, too, thank goodness! jackie harris
