I have a GSD pup who just turned a year old. I've trained her in obedience and am beginning to work her in Schutzhund. I would love to teach her some more tricks to keep her mind going. She knows the typical Sit, Stay, Down, Heel. Any ideas of other fun tricks to teach?
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Just my opinion.

edited: the speak command in my opinion is part of schutzhund....... it helps in the bark and hold........ but give me your paw..........come on........that is for a pet.......no place for schutzhund - where is that in the routine for any schutzhund title?...... if you are not a professional trainer - and you work a full time job........just teaching the routine in it's many parts will keep you busy enough.... and teaching your dog "parlor tricks" won't do anything but prolong your training in schutzhund......

OK: How about doing some hide-n-seek at home, find this find that; also get my shoes, get your ball, toy, stuffed toy, etc. Go get the your dog dish, put a bell at the door for them to go outside, learn to prey and bow. learn to count, of course fetch, vacuum, clean windows.

Besides... those "parlor tricks" can be taught any time of the day, anywhere. How many of you hike out in two feet of snow to train during the middle of winter? Or how about braving one of those torrential downpour type thunderstorms?
"hi-5", "shake" and "wave" are pretty much basic obedience in our house.

I do and I have. I thought I was going to get struck by lightning one time tracking in a torrential downpour. I watched the lightning strike in the field several hundred yards away as I tracked. My track was covered by 2 inches of water in a matter of minutes. I left my folding knife at the end as an article and didn't want to loose it. Boomer was a young dog and did an awesome track. The whole time I was picturing the headlines of me being hit by lightning tracking my dog.

YogieBear, doing silly tricks has zero effect on our Schutzhund performance. All of these tricks each took about five minutes each to teach the dog.
