how many people just live off any activity may it be breeding, dog sport, training solely or would you say that most people here and in dog business have some supllimentary income from other sources?

When I was in SAR it was before fire fighters and other public service were paid for their sar work. I did it all volunteer at a loss. I have never made money from dogs.

How can anyone, live off their dogs all they do is cost you money but they sure give lots of love to compensate.

Do you earn money from your dogs? How many dogs do you own or are you just thinking about getting some dogs thinking that you can make money with them.

Take it from ME not many people actually earn enough money from dogs to keep them wealthy, they only keep us poor.

i dont have dogs but i was thinkg of training franchise like barkbusters or something else

My husband and I both work full time jobs and will for at least the next 10+ years.  We breed dogs but a significant portion of our primary income backs up our breeding business.  We are small time breeders and hope to enjoy what we do in the dog world for many years to come.  Ideally, this is what will keep us busy in our retirement years.  What could be be better than sitting on your front portch drinking coffee and watching puppies play- right?

Making money out of dogs is a minefield, but not impossible.  Breeding, if done properly, is not likely to make you a lviing.  Boarding Kennels can be good, but the initial investment is very high and will take some time to recover.  Grooming seems to be a good one, you can start from home with a relatively small investment and expand from there,but you need to be in a catchment area with a lot of pet dogs to suit the business, I doubt there is much call for it if you live in a rural area of farm dog owners.  Training will depend on how good you are and how well you relate to people, Mr Milan hasn't done too badly at it!  You can't just take a course and become a dog trainer in a couple of weeks though, if you don't even have a dog you have far too much to learn about them before you can start training strange ones.

Suggest you contact some dog related businesses and ask if you can do some voluntary work for them for a few weeks, get a feel for whether it really is what you want to do, there is nothing like some serious hands on to dispel any illusions you may have.  I can't tell you how many eager applicants I have had keen to work here that don't last a week, some not a day, as the reality of working with dogs can be a shock for someone who has a nice pet dog of their own, let alone someone who doesn't even have one, not all dogs are nice, but you still have to deal with them.
