Hello everyone..............

Can you help me please..................

Could you let me know what you do with regards feeding your bitches with puppies..........before and after they give birth................

My bitches appear to not have much milk?

Any ideas and tips would be great.

Hi:  What I would do is give her a cup of mama cocktail broth every 4 hours:  here's the recipe.  chicken broth (homemade preferred but if you can't make it yourself, low sodium canned is OK;  mix 50/50 with water;  l can broth l can water, add an egg yolk only(no whites)  and some yogart mix and serve;  lots of fresh water;  she can also have some goats milk mixed in with it or some buttermilk.  Whatever you have on  hand.  give her one/two cups of this broth 4-6 times per day until milk increases and during time she is feeding puppies; best of luck.  There are some products out there that are made for lactating bitches to increase milk production, you may also need to bottle feed the puppies to be sure they all get enough milk.  That formula is goats milk mixed 50/50 with water and you can later add an egg yolk only;  again NO whites of egg.

You can also get puppies milk from pet food store its a mothers replacement milk;  I would probably have this on hand or the above formula in case her milk does not come in.  Some bitches do not produce enough milk no matter what you give them.  Best of luck,  maybe Mirasmom will come on the forum with some more ideas.  Nan

PS:  I use a regular new born baby bottle and increase nipple size if needed.  Good luck  Nan

I use CPN structure.  This increases the mother's milk production.  I also use/add other items to the mother's food such as; regular yogurt, cottage cheese and eggs.  You also may want to use/add regular mayonaise to the mix as the regular items add fat more so than the light or low-fat items.

Good luck!

Used to be that egg whites somehow interfered with the calcium absorption;  however, I am not sure if that is still the case but don't want you to take any changes.  Mama and puppies need all the natural calcium they can get and don't want anything interferring with that.  BOL  Nan  Pictures would be great of mama and puppies;  we all love pictures.  Best of luck with everyone,  you can give her lots of plain yogart also;  they love it and it settles tummies for both mama and puppies.  Great days.  Nan
