My girl has had diarrhea since yesterday. She is full of energy and is not throwing up. I have read on this forum to give her chicken/rice/pumpkin a few times a day. Are we talking about regular 100% pir pumpkin on a can?? I will try this for a couple of days ,and if she still has diarrhea off to the vet we go.....................opinions please??

Yes make sure the pumpkin that you buy is pure pumpkin not the pie filling.
I just boil chicken or hamburger and mix it with rice and add a tblspoon or two of pumpkin and feed 3 times a day smaller amnts.
Hope she feels better soon:)

P.S. A good probiotic can also help get there system back in check. I have started giving Prozyme to mine everyday to help with the digestive issues that can crop up from time to time in my gsds.

I went to the store at 5:00 thsi morning hoping to find pumpkin puree. I was only able to get 100% pumpkin with no added ingredients. It is used for pies, but other ingredients have to be added. What is teh exact name. Where can I get prozyme??

thank you so much!!

Yes that sounds like the right stuff. As long as it is 100% Pumpkin with nothing else.

Prozyme is a digestive enzyme that aids in digestion. I went through a 6 week ordeal with Giardia here and once they were past it i found out about prozyme:( Have been giving it since and its definetly helped them get back to normal pooping after the antibiotics and even now there coats are so shiney and soft and my 7 yr old seems to be acting much younger...lol
Running around like a puppy so i would say it has helped.

I also went to my health food store and bought human probiotics in as high level as i could get and opened the capsule and put it in there food.

If you go to http://www.prozymeproducts.com/prozymeoriginal.aspx you can order it right from the site.

Now do you know why she suddenly has diarreha? Did she eat something bad etc?

I'm not sure why. I do know that she finds her way in the garbage and gets food . The learned how to pop the lid.She always been one of those dogs that learns how to do teh oddest things.  I'm sure one of the kids lerft the door open to the laundry room. She is full of her normal energy, so I'm not worried yet.

Hi There,

Yes, the chicken, rice and pumpkin worked for Ryder.  He had a bad case of diarrhea and that is what I started to feed him.  I did also take him to the Vet and they did a stool test.  It was negative for any parasites so I'm not sure why he had the diarrhea.  He is very sensitive to dog foods.  I ended up switching him to honest kitchen food which was recommended by some on this forum and now he has been fine.  Hope your pup is well soon.

I use boiled ground beef (with all the grease boiled off) and overcooked instant white rice about 50/50 mix.  I've never added anything else, to me it defeats the purpose of a bland, elimination diet (one carb one protein source).

I have only used the rice. 24 hrs., 2 meals, (2-3 cups) to purge their system with nothing added that could keep them irratated. Rest, no training.

Chicken and instant rice...or hamburger and instant rice. I skip pumpkin all together when trying to cool off a hot tummy.  If diarreah lasts more than a couple of days, it's time to go to the Vet.
