Narrowed it down to two working litters! Which would you pick? - Page 1

Hi all,

After a longgggg search, I've narrowed down my search to two different litters.

Looking for a strong male personal protection/PSA candidate -- not a super super prey driven and sleeve only dog (as I've seen SO many of those), but a dog that has a great balance of prey/defense, good fight drive, and strong nerves. 



One litter is out of Liberatore in Maine:

personally, i would choose the truehaus litter.  nice pedigree and apt to produce some very serious dogs.

I laugh when people talk about super prey driven dogs....like training has nothing to do with it. If a dog is sleeve happy...it's the handlers fault first and foremost. Truehaus pedigree looks nice!

I think many dogs are apt to be sleeve happy because of how they are, and yes it is the handler's job to not let that happen.  But there are also dogs that could not be sleeve happy dogs no matter how hard you tried.

I would pick the TrueHaus puppy.

Who is doing health checks other than hips/elbows?  Because all the drives in the world and the best temperatment in the world won't matter if the puppy comes up with DM, or a cardio problem or is blind with PRA.  JMO  Nan

While I wouldn't be in such a hurry, minro, I would go w/Truehaus' litter since that's what you want to do with him. I like Ang's litter, too, but depending on the helper you have, I think you'd have better beginner's luck w/the Tom son. They mention his very high prey/play, which will be helpful in starting protection sports, whereas a lower prey, higher defense, super serious-type dog is a lot harder to train, many helpers don't know how to train them, and when you combine that w/being a new handler...I think you'd possibly be in for a lot of disappointment. I personally LIKE those dogs better, but if you want to do sport and you're not a trainer yourself and know how to work through all those things, it's very discouraging. Go with a proven recipe when you're just starting out. JMO.

I've liked Tom for a while now nice dog & I love Ellute offspring, this is a nice pedigree combo so hands down TrueHaus.
 

True Haus!

Jaxon is a Tom/Cat son and we are training in PSA. Jaxon does have a lot of prey/play drive. But he's not over the top. And as a first time handler he is excellent.

I like both litters....and I think you will do well with either litter provided you get the right pup. In all litters where the genetics are there, there will be some pups that will meet your need. I love the Haus Pixner dogs, and love the Czech lines Angie uses...both will produce good working dogs.

The TrueHaus litter should be a very nice litter of pups.  I have worked "Tommy" and "Fiby" both they really are nice dogs.  I had considered getting a pup from that litter myself because I like the Fiby bitch so much.  (Ellute Daughter)
The Haus Pixner side brings in the realness you want, yet still very drivey.
