So I'm curious,  can anyone tell me anything about Sven?  I see him in a lot of so called "pure DDR line" dogs (I know many say there is no such thing as pure DDR anymore) and I was just wandering what does that dog actually bring to the table in breeding.  Do they have videos of him working, what are his offspring like, and can they actually work?  What about temperament and hip production as well?  I'm not interested in any decedents of Sven, I just see him so often now in DDR pedigrees.  And what about Tino, another common dog seen in DDR lines?

There was previously a post about show lines that can work, but I'm wandering.....Does anyone have any videos of "DDR" dogs that can work.  I mean real protection, or even Schutzhund training (I do consider SAR work as well).  We often hear about some of the great dogs like Aron Poppitz (not doubting that he can work at all, I'm sure he can), who is an awesome looking dog, and seems to produce well from what I hear about temperament, and looks as well.  What about working ability in his offspring?  Or what about Puck Grafental and his offspring. Hip production? Working ability? And what about any other DDR line dogs that are well known (I'm drawing a blank on names).  One of my questions is, why don't we see videos of any of the famous "DDR" dogs? I've seen some of Alk von Osterburg Quell, and his sire Lord, but no others.  I'm in no way downing the lines, I think dogs like Aron, Puck, Tino, etc are absolutely gorgeous. Same with dogs like Iltis von der Wildsau who I know have produced nice (when bred to Czech line dogs like Ginta z Pohranicni Straze or some others).  He is my favorite dog from a looks stand point, but there are no videos of him around either.  Does anyone have any videos of their DDR line dogs working?

Again, I'm not looking at a puppy or decendant out of any of the dogs mentioned,  I'm just hoping for some videos, and info about Sven and Tino as well.  I do realize many claim they have pure DDR, and many claim that there is no such thing anymore.  Thoughts?

Well I do not have any videos of Sven or Tino but I would like to throw my 2 cents about DDR dogs.
It depends how you look at it.
DDR doesn't exist anymore, so if you think that DDR dogs have to be born in DDR, such thing is impossible.
But thinking that way.... all show dogs bred in Germany, coming from German lines, born in USA should be called American Lines GSD's.
To me pure DDR bloodlines dog, is a dog with every single dog in his pedigree going back to old DDR dogs.

Seby,

I agree and what you said is very correct, but still it is rare to find a GSD nowadays whose every single dog in its pedigree goes back to DDR GSDs.
A DDR GSD of today, I think, is one which has DDR blood in it to a good extent and represents the known traits of DDR dog type.

Yes you are right Ibrahim, it is hard but not impossible....
But if even one dog could not be traced back to DDR lines, I wouldn't call it a DDR dog.
It would be a working dog.

Thanks for the replies guys.  And to me, I use to think of some of the dogs being "pure DDR" but I now fall on the belief that there is no such thing as a pure DDR anymore.

DDR is a thing of the past, But I still feel that if the foundation is DDR and DDR traits are passed on to offspring I like to consider the dog of DDR orgin.

Pharaoh

by Pharaoh on 05 August 2011 - 05:08

Pharaoh is descended from 100% DDR bloodlines.  So is my puppy Mariah (Rookie daughter).

Pharaoh is a grandson of Sven Grafental

I Have a house full of them.
Either all east, or crossed with.

No Sven here, but he is in many pedigrees.

I have an Alk grandson, over there by the bed.

Also a Tino son laying here under my feet who works just fine.
Anytime, anyplace, just bring your scratch pants.
You'll need them.
