Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 03 August 2011 - 22:08

Well, with all the threads about puppies with vomiting/diarrhea lately, I thought I'd jump in there, too. Again with Li' Bit, who up until yesterday, had been doing well on Natural Balance Herring & Sweet Potato limited ingredient kibble.

My husband reported another episode of vomiting & diarrhea yesterday. Today, no poop, & fasting her except for a little white rice. We had been so confident with her improvement that we were going to wean off the rice/ground turkey mix completely. She had nice odorless, solid stools, no vomiting.....regained some weight; she looked like her old self, sleek, shiney, saucy. She still looks good, but egads! My only consideration was that we started a new chub of ground turkey...wasn't there a recall? I didn't save the chub wrapper, but it was JennieO, & I haven't found any recall info on that.

So, I'm looking for any other straws we can grasp at. I guess we're going to do the EPI test, but wouldn't that be constant.....not on & off like this has been? I've been doing as much reading & research as time will allow, but you all are such wonderful resources, just thought I'd ask. We've been the metro/panacur route already....this seems to happen at approximately 3 week intervals, which makes me think of some parasites growth cycle or something.

Any thoughts?

Well, yes, JennieO, but burgers, not chubs. And contaminated with Salmonella, which, since we're cooking it thoroughly, shouldn't really be an issue. **sigh** Little dog seems happy today, presently dragging my husband around the yard. What to do, what to do??? jackie harris

3 week intervals for my boy was Whip worm;  and a couple of coccadia eggs and he carried all this for like 18 months..  I used panacur lcc/10 lbs for 5 days;  then skipped about 2 weeks and rewormed him again.  FINALLY, got it and it did not come back.  But in the meantime I do think it did contribute to autoimmune problems later in life.  So, even though you might get a clear stool sample, I would reworm her again;  add some pumpkin in her diet a couple of tablespoons twice a day and maybe add Tylan, and probiotics.  Those will help the gut.  BOL  Nan

Thanks Nan. It's making us crazy! Poor little girl. Vet thinks EPI, but I don't think it would be so sporatic. I will try more Panacur. jackie harris

Could be pancreatitis.  the vomiting piece with the diarreha(?) makes me consider that.  In which case Billinghursts Pacreatitis diet works well to control it.  Just a thought.

your post is a little unclear to me, or maybe i'm reading it wrong.  she was having digestive issues before, and then was doing better on rice and ground turkey mix?  and this happened when you were weaning her off of the rice and ground turkey mix, or did it happen during the time when the rice and ground turkey mix was the majority of her diet?

if i could offer a suggestion....maybe you would like to try diatomaceous earth to deworm rather than using panacur repeatedly?

i would also add probiotics. maybe something like http://www.renewlife.com/ultimate-flora-critical-care-50-billion.html

Since this goes back several years for me now I remember I also used Drontal Plus, and I seem to remember I gave him two doses 3 weeks apart.  That wormer also gets everything however, not coccidia (SP) sorry.  Try not to do too much at one time with her though, this whole process takes a little time as you need to skip several weeks between wormings to let the gut rest.  Good luck Nan

PS:  Definitely do not over feed her.  That can cause problems also.  N
